Armstrong Family Winery is a first-generation, family-owned winery in the Walla Walla Valley, producing small-lot, old-world style wines — restrained, balanced, and made to age. We farm two estate vineyards in Walla Walla with minimal intervention and craft wines meant for the table, not just the spotlight. We're looking for someone who can bring that same honesty and craft to how they represent us in the market.
THE ROLE
This is a hands-on, in-the-field role for someone who genuinely enjoys talking to people and believes in what they're selling. The core of the job is representing Armstrong directly to consumers and trade buyers — most heavily through recurring retail roadshows and in-store dry tastings, supplemented by sales calls, deliveries, and event pouring. This role directly drives awareness and sales growth for the winery.
Compensation: Hourly, plus commission/bonus tied to sales results.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Retail Roadshows & Dry Tastings (primary responsibility)
Conduct in-store dry tastings and retail roadshow events several times per month
Transport and deliver wine to each tasting location
Set up, break down, and staff a tasting table for 7–8 hours per shift
Engage every customer who passes — introduce them to Armstrong, answer questions, and drive purchase decisions
Maintain compliance with retail partner requirements and all Washington State alcohol sampling regulations
Sales & Delivery
Make sales calls to local on-premise accounts (restaurants, bars) and boutique bottle shops
Deliver wine to accounts as needed
Build and maintain relationships with buyers, managers, and staff at retail and on-premise accounts to grow and retain placements
Tasting Room & Club Support
Assist in the tasting room as needed, including pouring and guest engagement
Support Wine Club events, including setup, guest experience, and pouring
Receive wine deliveries, move wine, assist with light cleaning/glass washing and polishing, as needed
Regional Events
Represent and pour for Armstrong at regional wine events, festivals, and trade tastings as scheduled
WHO YOU ARE
Highly self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal oversight
Friendly, professional, and genuinely enjoy meeting a wide variety of people
Goal-oriented, with a proven track record of excelling at sales or fundraising — even informally (school fundraisers, previous sales roles, etc. all count)
A strong, natural communicator who can hold a conversation with a stranger and make it easy
Skilled at building authentic, positive relationships — this isn't a scripted-pitch role
Comfortable with rejection and undeterred by a slow hour at the table
A genuine believer in the value of well-made, handcrafted wine - and willing and eager to learn
Willing to pitch in wherever needed — this is a small business, and the role will flex
REQUIREMENTS
Washington State MAST (Mandatory Alcohol Server Training) permit required (or ability to obtain before start date)
Valid driver's license and clean driving record
Personal vehicle with large cargo capacity (able to transport multiple cases of wine)
Able to lift and carry 40 lb cases of wine repeatedly
Able to stand for 7+ hours at a time
Willing and able to travel within the region as needed
Flexible schedule, including weekends, to accommodate tasting days and events
Basic understanding of and appreciation for small lot, hand-crafted wine
IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL ALSO HAVE
Prior experience conducting in-store product demos, tastings, or retail roadshows
Deeper wine knowledge or industry experience
Existing relationships with local restaurants or retail accounts
