Human Resources Manager
Michael David Winery is seeking as experienced Human Resource Manager to lead our Human Resources department for an organization of more than 200 employees with a mix of Salary, Hourly FT, PT, and Seasonal. Our winery is based in Lodi, California. Our winery operates across multiple locations, including our main winery, off-site barrel warehouse, and Geyserville location. A Sales Team of 20 members located across 15 states. This position serves as a trusted business partner to leadership and is responsible for developing and implementing HR strategies that support our employees, culture, and business objectives while ensuring compliance with California employment laws.
We are looking for an HR professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys building strong relationships with employees and leaders, and possesses extensive knowledge of employee benefits administration.
Position summary
The Human Resources Manager is responsible for the overall administration of Human Resources, including employee relations, compensation, benefits, leave administration, talent acquisition, performance management, compliance, policy development, training, and employee engagement. This position partners closely with leadership to foster a positive workplace culture while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws.
Essential Responsibilities
• Manage all day-to-day Human Resources operations.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to managers and employees on employee relations, performance management, coaching, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution.
• Administer and oversee all employee benefit programs including:
o Medical, Dental, Vision
o Life & AD&D Insurance
o Flexible Spending Accounts
o Health Savings Accounts
o 401(k) Plan
o Cobra Administration
o Open Enrollment
o Benefits orientation and employee education
• Partner with insurance brokers to evaluate plan performance, resolve employee benefit issues.
• Manage all leave programs including FMLA, CFRA, Pregnancy Disability Leave (PDL), ADA accommodations, Workers' Compensation, and California Sick Leave.
• Maintain compliance with California employment laws and HR best practices.
• Develop, implement, and update HR policies, employee handbook provisions, and HR procedures.
• Lead recruitment, onboarding, orientation, and offboarding activities.
• Oversee employee performance review programs and compensation planning.
• Participate in compensation surveys and salary benchmarking.
• Support workplace safety initiatives and assist with investigations and Workers’ Compensation claims.
• Maintain confidentiality while exercising sound judgment and professionalism.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum five years of Human Resources experience.
• Minimum three years administering comprehensive employee benefit programs.
• Strong knowledge of:
o ADP Workforce Manager is preferred/or other payroll provider experience
o California employment laws
o FMLA, CFRA, ADA, PDL, FEHA
o Wage and hour compliance
o Workers’ Compensation
o Leave administration
o Benefits administration
o ERISA, COBRA, ACA, and HIPAA privacy requirements
• Experience managing Open Enrollment planning through implementation.
• Experience working with insurance carriers, brokers, third-party administrators, and retirement plan providers.
• Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal communications skills.
• Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.
• Microsoft Office skills, Excel, Teams
• Bilingual English/Spanish helpful.
• Familiarity with the agriculture and beverage alcohol industries is a plus
