Doubleback is a family-owned winery producing Ultra-Premium wines in the Walla Walla Valley. We are a passionate team seeking a motivated individual to fill our Cellar Master position. Our winery offers the opportunity to work in a premium winemaking environment. The ideal candidate is team oriented, reliable, has a keen eye for detail, and a desire to work in all areas of the winery.

Position Overview
The Cellar Master is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and execution of cellar operations, ensuring that all wines are handled with the highest standards of quality, cleanliness, organization, safety, and attention to detail.
The Cellar Master works closely with the Associate Winemaker to execute the winery's winemaking plan and is expected to demonstrate strong initiative, sound judgment, and ownership of cellar operations. This position is a hands-on role , requiring the ability to effectively lead harvest staff while maintaining a detailed understanding of the wines and their individual needs.

Cellar Operations & Winemaking
•  Lead and execute day-to-day cellar operations according to established winemaking standards and protocols.
•  Maintain a consistently clean, organized, and sanitary cellar environment.
•  Perform cellar operations including, but not limited to:
o Topping
o Sulfur dioxide additions
o Racking
o Wine movements
o Blending
o Filtration
o Bottling
o Barrel filling and emptying
o Barrel maintenance and organization
o Tank and vessel management
•  Maintain strict attention to detail throughout all winemaking processes.
•  Develop an intimate working knowledge of all wine lots and their current status.
•  Monitor wine lots for potential quality or operational issues and communicate concerns promptly to the Associate Winemaker.
•  Participate in blending trials and contribute thoughtful observations and recommendations.
•  Execute cellar work accurately and according to the direction of the winemaking team.
•  Maintain clear and timely communication with the Associate Winemaker to ensure efficient workflow and completion of cellar priorities.
•  Demonstrate initiative and continually identify opportunities to improve cellar practices, efficiency, organization, and wine quality.

Leadership & Staff Development
•  Lead by example and establish a high standard for work ethic, professionalism, cleanliness, and attention to detail.
•  Provide day-to-day leadership and direction to any full-time and seasonal cellar employees.
•  Organize and delegate cellar tasks based on staffing, priorities, and production schedules.
•  Train, coach, and develop cellar staff in all aspects of winery operations.
•  Ensure employees are properly trained in cellar procedures, equipment operation, safety protocols, sanitation, and quality standards.
•  Hold cellar staff accountable to established winery standards and expectations.
•  Provide constructive feedback and communicate performance concerns to the Associate Winemaker.
•  Foster a professional, positive, collaborative, and accountable team culture.
•  Encourage continuous learning and development of technical winemaking and cellar skills.

Quality & Wine Lot Management
•  Maintain an intimate knowledge of the condition, location, and status of all wine lots under the Cellar Master's care.
•  Ensure wines are handled consistently according to established winemaking standards and protocols.
•  Monitor wine handling, storage, topping, sulfur dioxide additions, temperature, and other cellar practices that impact wine quality.
•  Identify and communicate potential wine quality issues as early as possible.
•  Participate in sensory evaluation and continue to develop strong wine tasting and palate skills.
•  Maintain a high level of awareness regarding wine quality, cleanliness, sanitation, and cellar conditions.
•  Protect the integrity and quality of the wine through every stage of cellar production.

Equipment & Facility Management
•  Maintain all winemaking equipment in a clean, safe, organized, and operational condition.
•  Perform routine preventative maintenance, repairs, adjustments, and equipment troubleshooting.
•  Maintain and properly care for pumps, hoses, valves, fittings, tanks, barrels, filters, presses, bottling equipment, and other winery equipment.
•  Identify equipment issues and communicate repair or replacement needs promptly.
•  Coordinate repairs and outside service when necessary.
•  Maintain equipment in a manner that minimizes unexpected downtime.
•  Maintain the general cleanliness and organization of winery facilities.
•  Assist with general facility and grounds maintenance as needed.
•  Maintain winery vehicles in a clean and operational condition and communicate maintenance needs promptly.

Safety & Compliance
•  Promote and maintain a safe working environment throughout the winery.
•  Lead by example in the proper use of personal protective equipment and safe work practices.
•  Ensure cellar employees are properly trained in safe equipment operation, chemical handling, and winery safety procedures.
•  Identify and address unsafe working conditions or practices.
•  Communicate safety concerns, incidents, and near misses to management promptly.
•  Maintain proper chemical storage, labeling, and handling practices.
•  Follow all winery safety policies, regulatory requirements, and established operating procedures.
