COMPANY:
Bucher Vaslin is the leading supplier worldwide of premium winery equipment with an established reputation for superior quality and innovative design. Bucher Vaslin North America (“BVNA”) distributes and services all Bucher Vaslin products in North America including destemmers, pumps, presses, elevators, optical sorters and sorting tables, as well as bottling/labeling lines, tanks, and other processing equipment.
To continue developing its business in the assigned territories, BVNA seeks to hire a Sales Manager to lead commercial activities focused on equipment solutions.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the proactive and efficient management of all BVNA commercial activities in assigned territories, in collaboration with the Vice President and internal teams, with the objective of achieving sales targets in terms of volume and profitability.
The role operates in a competitive environment requiring strong relationship management, technical expertise in equipment winery solutions, and ongoing prospecting to develop new business.
This position is a key member of the Sales Team and works closely with leadership to define product-line objectives, identify opportunities, and deliver results. The ideal candidate is a collaborative team player with strong technical and commercial knowledge. This position is based in Sonoma County, California, and requires significant travel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manage existing accounts by building strong relationships with key people, decision makers as well as influencers; this includes winemakers, cellar managers as well as executive managers at wineries and winemaking consultants who manage winery projects. Develop a deep understanding of each customer’s operations, purchasing patterns, and current and future equipment needs.
• Evaluate customer operations to identify opportunities for process optimization and equipment improvements. Recommend tailored technical solutions aligned with BVNA product offerings.
• Analyze customer infrastructure, including current equipment, suppliers, and processing workflows, to identify upgrade or replacement opportunities.
• Understand financial constraints and investment priorities influencing purchasing decisions.
• Conduct regular customer visits, prospecting, and cold outreach to promote the Bucher Vaslin brand and full equipment portfolio. Clearly articulate competitive advantages such as innovation, efficiency, durability, ease of maintenance, and service support.
• Develop and present customized equipment proposals and quotations. Collaborate with internal teams (service, logistics, management) and suppliers to ensure accurate specifications, competitive pricing, and alignment with BVNA policies.
• Provide technical equipment advisory services by recommending solutions for grape processing, sorting, pressing, pumping, and bottling operations. Help customers optimize performance, throughput, efficiency, and product quality through appropriate equipment selection and configuration.
• Assess operational challenges and propose equipment-based solutions to improve efficiency, reduce downtime, and streamline processes across winery operations.
• Support equipment implementation and optimization by working closely with customers and internal technical teams to ensure proper installation, commissioning, training, and performance validation.
• Take full ownership of the order process from quotation through delivery and commissioning. Coordinate all internal and external stakeholders to ensure customer satisfaction and successful project execution.
• Collaborate with BVNA leadership and global product teams to identify market opportunities, contribute to product improvements, and support new product introductions.
• Participate in trade shows, industry events, and networking opportunities to promote BVNA equipment solutions and expand customer base.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, industrial technology, business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• Minimum 5 years of experience in capital equipment sales, technical equipment sales, industrial processing equipment sales, winery equipment sales or a related field
• Strong understanding of industrial equipment, processing systems, mechanical equipment applications and winery operations. Experience selling capital equipment is strongly preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
• Strong consultative sales approach with ability to assess customer needs and recommend technical equipment solutions
• Ability to understand and communicate complex technical information related to equipment and processing systems
• Proven ability to develop and execute a territory sales strategy, prospect effectively, and close sales
• Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and objection-handling skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and customers simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Self-motivated and able to work independently while contributing to a team environment
• Strong organizational skills and business knowledge
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel extensively throughout Northern California and other assigned territories
• Proficiency with MS Office and CRM systems
• Spanish and/or French language skills are a plus
