Harvest Cellar Supervisor

Martinelli Winery is a family-owned winery in the heart of the Russian River Valley, dedicated to producing exceptional estate-grown Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, and Syrah. With generations of winemaking tradition and a commitment to quality, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Harvest Cellar Supervisor to lead our harvest cellar operations.

The Harvest Cellar Supervisor is a hands-on leadership position responsible for coordinating and supervising all harvest-related cellar activities while working alongside the cellar crew. This individual will play a key role in maintaining a safe, efficient, and quality-focused work environment throughout the harvest season. The ideal candidate is an organized leader with strong communication skills, a passion for winemaking, and the ability to motivate and develop seasonal staff in a fast-paced production environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Supervise daily harvest cellar operations, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to production priorities.
Lead and participate in all harvest cellar activities, including:
Fruit receival and processing
Crusher and press operations
Fermentation management, including pump-overs and punch-downs
Drain-and-press operations
Wine transfers, rackings, and tank movements
Juice, wine, and must additions
Barrel filling and barrel work
Coordinate daily work assignments and establish an efficient workflow for the harvest cellar crew.
Train, mentor, and supervise seasonal harvest interns and cellar staff, ensuring adherence to cellar procedures, sanitation protocols, and quality standards.
Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and safety while setting the pace through active participation in daily operations.
Ensure all cellar equipment is operated safely, properly maintained, cleaned, and stored according to winery standards.
Review, reconcile, and approve completed work orders and production records for accuracy.
Work closely with the winemakers to prioritize daily production activities and adjust schedules as harvest demands change.
Maintain accurate records of harvest activities, wine movements, additions, and production data.
Assist with winery sanitation, facility upkeep, and special projects as assigned.
Foster positive working relationships across all departments to ensure successful harvest operations.

Qualifications

Minimum 6 years of winery production or cellar experience.
Minimum 3 years of supervisory or team leadership experience in a winery production environment.
Minimum 3 years of forklift experience in a winery or barrel storage facility.
Thorough understanding of harvest cellar operations, fermentation management, sanitation, and winery production practices.
Strong organizational, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and adapt quickly in a fast-paced harvest environment.
Excellent communication and leadership skills with a commitment to developing seasonal staff.
Working knowledge of winery safety procedures.
Basic math and record keeping skills.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and overtime during harvest.
Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, and work in varied weather and cellar conditions.
