We're looking for a detail-oriented, analytical Winery Accountant who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where accounting extends beyond the office and directly supports production, inventory, operations, and business decision-making.

Position Summary:
The Winery Accountant is responsible for maintaining the financial integrity of Alexandria Nicole Cellars through accurate accounting, inventory management, wine costing, and financial reporting. This is a Full-Time position that works closely with the CEO, COO, winemaking team, operations, tasting rooms, and partner vendors to ensure financial information accurately reflects winery operations from vineyard to bottle.
This role combines traditional accounting responsibilities with winery-specific inventory and production accounting, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both financial analysis and operational involvement.
Primary Responsibilities:
Financial Accounting
• Manage the full accounts payable process, ensuring invoices are accurately coded, approved, and paid on time.
• Perform monthly bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close procedures.
• Prepare journal entries and supporting schedules.
• Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow reporting.
• Support annual audits and tax preparation with outside accounting firms.
• Prepare monthly financial reports for management.
Winery Inventory & Cost Accounting
• Maintain accurate perpetual inventory records for bulk wine, bottled wine, kegs, dry goods, packaging materials, and merchandise.
• Calculate and maintain wine costing from crush through finished goods.
• Analyze production costs including bottling, packaging, labor, and materials.
• Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) for all finished products.
• Reconcile inventory between QuickBooks, Commerce7, and physical inventory counts.
• Investigate inventory variances and recommend corrective actions.
• Process inventory adjustments including breakage, samples, losses, dump records, and transfers.
• Maintain accurate inventory valuations and cost of goods sold.
Production & Operational Accounting
• Partner with the winemaking and operations teams to monitor production costs.
• Assist with harvest accounting, grape purchases, grower settlements, and vineyard expenses.
• Review bottling runs for costing accuracy.
• Track inventory movements between warehouses and tasting room locations.
• Assist with costing and inventory setup for new vintages, releases, kegs, and special projects.
• Provide financial analysis to support pricing decisions and profitability.
Sales & Customer Accounting
• Reconcile daily sales from Commerce7 and POS systems.
• Process customer credits, distributor returns, product returns, and inventory adjustments.
• Assist with wholesale and distributor account reconciliations.
• Monitor sales tax reporting and exemptions.
• Support wine club and eCommerce accounting processes.
Compliance & Reporting
• Assist with winery compliance reporting, including TTB and Washington State reporting.
• Ensure financial records comply with GAAP and winery accounting best practices.
• Maintain documentation supporting inventory and financial audits.
• Assist with annual inventory counts and cycle counts.
• Support internal controls and process improvements.
Qualifications
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of accounting experience.
• Manufacturing or winery accounting experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with inventory and cost accounting preferred.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and month-end close.
• Experience with QuickBooks Online or similar accounting software.
• Experience with Commerce7, WineDirect, or winery POS systems is a plus.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including PivotTables, XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, and financial analysis.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
