Job Summary:
We are a leading vineyard management company serving premier wine grape growers throughout Northern California. We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to lead all aspects of our human resources function while ensuring compliance with California employment laws and supporting a workforce that includes both field and administrative employees.

The Human Resources Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating all human resources activities for the organization. This position serves as a trusted advisor to leadership while fostering a positive workplace culture and ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws.
The ideal candidate has extensive knowledge of California labor law, agricultural employment practices, wage and hour regulations, and experience supporting seasonal and year-round workforces.
Essential Responsibilities:
Employee Relations
• Serve as the primary HR resource for managers and employees.
• Investigate employee complaints, workplace concerns, and policy violations.
• Conduct workplace investigations and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
• Coach supervisors on employee performance, discipline, and conflict resolution.
• Promote a respectful and inclusive workplace culture.
Compliance
• Ensure compliance with California Labor Code, Wage Orders, CFRA, FMLA, FEHA, ADA, OSHA, and other employment regulations.
• Maintain employment policies and employee handbook.
• Oversee I-9 compliance and employment eligibility verification.
• Monitor wage and hour compliance including meal and rest periods, overtime, and recordkeeping.
• Coordinate responses to labor agency audits and investigations.
Recruiting & Onboarding
• Lead recruitment efforts for field and administrative positions.
• Develop hiring strategies to attract qualified candidates.
• Coordinate interviews, offers, background checks, and onboarding.
• Manage orientation and new employee training.
Performance Management
• Develop and administer performance evaluation programs.
• Assist managers with employee development plans.
• Coordinate succession planning initiatives.
• Identify organizational training needs.
Leave Administration
• Administer CFRA, FMLA, Pregnancy Disability Leave, workers’ compensation, ADA accommodations, and other protected leaves.
• Coordinate interactive process meetings.
• Manage return-to-work procedures.
Compensation & Benefits
• Assist with compensation planning and salary administration.
• Coordinate employee benefits enrollment and annual open enrollment.
• Partner with payroll to ensure accurate wage administration.
Safety & Risk Management
• Collaborate with the Safety Department on injury prevention initiatives.
• Support workers’ compensation claims management.
• Assist with OSHA compliance and safety training.
Leadership
• Supervise HR staff.
• Develop HR policies and procedures.
• Participate as a member of the leadership team.
• Recommend improvements to HR systems and processes.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field OR minimum 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience.
• Minimum 3 years in an HR leadership or management role.
• Strong working knowledge of California employment law.
• Experience conducting workplace investigations.
• Experience managing employee leaves and accommodations.
• Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
• Strong organizational and project management abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems.
Preferred
• Experience in agriculture, vineyard management, farming, or food production.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.
• SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.
• Experience with payroll systems and HRIS implementation.
