Our family-owned winery is looking for a Cellar Hand to join our small but mighty winemaking team. The Cellar Hand assists with all bulk wine movements and harvest cellar work, performs barrel work, upholds all safety standards and SOPs, and helps to ensure the overall safety, cleanliness and organization of our cellar. This position typically works Monday through Friday but may require night and/or weekend hours, especially during the harvest season.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
• Complete all bulk wine movements and barrel work in a timely, safe and efficient manner.
• Perform racking, blending, barrel downs, topping, filtering, bottling, cleaning and sanitation.
• During harvest, work will include grape processing, pumpovers & punchdowns, drain and press, fermentation management and cleaning, hauling grapes, etc.
• Maintain cellar cleanliness and organization.
• Transport supplies and materials (via company-provided vehicle).
• Uphold SOPs and adhere to safety standards at all times.
• Embrace the continuous improvement process by identifying opportunities for problem solving and improvement of efficiencies.
• Assist with other projects and initiatives as assigned.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE:
• Previous cellar and winemaking experience preferred but not required.
• Have a valid California driver’s license, clean driving record, and be insurable.
• Able to communicate clearly in English (spoken and written).
• Able to read, understand and follow work and safety-based SOPs.
• Have flexibility and willingness to work in changing environments.
• Ability to work extended shifts during harvest.
• A positive, proactive, and team-oriented mindset.
• Forklift experience is ideal, but not required.
• Spanish proficiency a plus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Work will be on-site at our Napa, CA facility.
• Able to lift and carry 50 pounds on a repetitive basis and to work standing up on concrete surfaces for extended periods of time.
• Able to climb a ladder on a regular basis.
• Ability to bend, squat, push, pull, carry, and reach for objects as necessary.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
PAY & BENEFITS:
• Hourly pay rate of $20-$26 per hour. This pay range represents what we reasonably expect to pay for this position; however, the exact compensation offered will depend on multiple factors, such as the candidate’s education, experience, skills and ability, and alignment with internal and market data.
