Marimar Estate Vineyards & Winery is led by the mother-daughter team of Marimar and Cristina Torres. Surrounded by vines and nestled in the rolling hills of West Sonoma County, the winery produces highly acclaimed Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays as well as Spanish varietals (Albariño, Godello, and Tempranillo) from its very own Certified Sustainable vineyards.
The Winemaker position is a senior leadership role responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of all winemaking operations, including crush, bottling, and cellar activities. This position directs daily cellar operations while actively participating in key production tasks such as sampling, topping, racking, blending, harvest cellar operations, and bottling. This position also supports vineyard operations.
The ideal candidate is committed to producing wines of the highest quality, possesses a strong foundation in all aspects of cellar operations, is organized and self-motivated, and demonstrates exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
This position reports directly to the President and GM.
Winery Responsibilities
-Direct all cellar operations
-Perform hands on cellar work
-Maintain bulk wine records
-Bottling preparations, packaging procurement, and bottling execution
-Facility management and maintenance
-Maintain Winery and Vineyard sustainability certification
-Cellar equipment repair and maintenance
-Budgeting: cellar, bottling, crush, facility
-Hire, train, and manage cellar staff including harvest interns
-Safety training
-Warehouse and inventory management
Vineyard Duties
-Grape sales and grower relations
-Pesticide reporting
-Ordering vineyard supplies
-Record keeping
-Coordinating vineyard operations with Vineyard Foreman and Viticulture Consultant
-Vineyard Equipment maintenance
-Trailer operations during harvest
-Tractor and vehicle maintenance
-Vineyard permits & Budgeting
-Vineyard safety training with team
-General property management
-Neighbor relations
-General support for vineyard team
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 5+ years of full-time wine production experience.
• Familiar with cellar workflow management.
• Knowledge of Vineyard operations
• Experience in luxury, small lot winemaking is required.
• Highly skilled in hands-on cellar operations and familiar with a wide variety of high-quality winemaking practices.
• Skilled in sensory evaluation, especially in identifying wine flaws.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and a positive attitude.
• Spanish language proficiency is a plus.
• Able to drive a forklift and truck with trailer
• Able to lift 40 lbs, climb ladders, work in hot/cold and wet environments, work long hours, and weekends.
• Must be currently legal to work in the United States.
