Ellman is a small estate nestled at the base of Atlas Peak in Napa Valley. Planted to a sought-after suitcase clone of Cabernet Sauvignon, the combination of gentle slopes, rocky soils, and old-world clonal material work in harmony to produce rich, complex wines with elegant character. We are seeking passionate, detail-oriented Harvest Interns who thrive in a collaborative environment and are eager to contribute in a tight-knit team. This role offers an exciting and unique, hands-on opportunity to execute winemaking techniques at the highest level within our new, state-of-the-art facility. Interns will be fully immersed in all cellar operations, and support vineyard monitoring and in-house lab analysis to ensure precise picking decisions. Through this immersive experience, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of ultra-premium winegrowing—from vine to bottle.
Specific duties include:
• Crop estimation, vineyard monitoring, and sampling our estate vineyard
• In-house lab analysis
• Processing and recording Harvest sample analytes (Brix, pH, TA)
• Sanitization and maintenance of wine tanks and processing equipment
• Working, sorting, and cleaning the fruit processing line
• Barrel organization, preparation, cleaning, filling, and stirring
• Fermentation monitoring and cap management using pumpovers and punchdowns
• Inoculations and additions to musts and fermentations
• Draining and digging pomace out of wine tanks
• Filling, operation, and cleaning of the wine press
• Overall facility maintenance and general cellar work including sampling, racking, blending, topping, additions, and barrel maintenance
• Accurate recording of work, inventories, and supplies via InnoVint database
• Above all prioritize safety, quality control, organization, and efficiency in all operations
Job Requirements:
• College degree, preferably in Viticulture and/or Enology
• Previous industry experience is preferred
• Forklift experience
• Ability to lift 50 lbs
• Willingness to work early mornings
• Comfortable working outdoors in vineyard settings
• Self-motivated and capable of occasionally working alone
• Ability to learn and adapt to seasonal and team needs
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Able to drive to various vineyards across multiple counties
• General viticulture knowledge would be beneficial
• General knowledge of cellar practices
• General lab knowledge and experience would be beneficial
• Potential for overtime and weekend work
• An interest in producing high-quality wines
• Willingness to perform basic routine tasks as well as contribute at a higher level
Approximate job timeline runs from mid-August to mid-November.
