Director of Portfolio & Operations

Third Leaf Wines by European Cellars

About Third Leaf Wines

Third Leaf Wines by European Cellars is a U.S.-based wine importer and three-tier sales and marketing agency representing wines from France, Spain, South Africa, Argentina, and the United States.

The portfolio was created through a partnership between Eric Solomon Selections and Third Leaf Wines, with a focus on supporting high-quality, family-owned estates that prioritize a strong sense of place and help them grow their presence in the U.S. market.

Position Summary

Third Leaf Wines is seeking a **Director of Portfolio & Operations** to oversee supplier relationships, portfolio management, inventory planning, pricing support, data accuracy, and operational execution.

This is a remote position open to candidates based anywhere in the United States, with a preference for candidates located on the East Coast due to time zone alignment with company leadership, winery partners, and key distributor markets.

This is a key cross-functional role for a highly organized, tech-savvy wine industry professional who understands how supplier communication, inventory discipline, portfolio data, pricing, systems, and sales execution all connect to profitable growth.

The ideal candidate must be highly comfortable with technology, data management, reporting tools, and modern business systems. We are especially interested in someone who is open to learning and applying AI tools to improve data accuracy, reporting, workflow efficiency, inventory visibility, and internal processes.

The Director will work closely with company leadership, sales managers, winery partners, logistics providers, distributors, and the internal Operations Manager to ensure Third Leaf Wines has the right products, pricing, inventory, data, and information to support continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

* Serve as a primary day-to-day contact for winery and supplier partners.
* Lead monthly winery partner meetings covering sales performance, inventory, depletions, forecasts, vintage transitions, market priorities, and upcoming needs.
* Maintain accurate portfolio information, including producers, brands, SKUs, vintages, pack sizes, pricing, margins, allocations, ratings, images, sell sheets, and other key product data.
* Manage new vintage releases, pricing updates, vintage transitions, item setup, discontinued items, and portfolio changes.
* Lead inventory planning across warehouses, distributors, and supplier pipeline.
* Monitor inventory by SKU, vintage, warehouse, and distributor to support sales priorities and reduce avoidable stockouts.
* Identify aged inventory, excess inventory, supply gaps, vintage risk, and allocation issues.
* Support profitability by maintaining accurate pricing and margin information and helping reduce margin leakage.
* Provide sales managers with accurate inventory reports, pricing sheets, product information, and presentation support.
* Assist with distributor, supplier, and national account meeting preparation.
* Manage and support the Operations Manager to ensure timely follow-through, process discipline, and data accuracy.
* Help improve reporting, ERP workflows, portfolio data, and internal operating processes.
* Explore and help implement technology, automation, and AI-supported tools to improve efficiency, reporting accuracy, data management, and workflow discipline.

Qualifications

* 5+ years of experience in wine, spirits, beverage alcohol, importing, distribution, portfolio management, supplier relations, operations, or related fields.
* Strong understanding of the wine industry, three-tier system, supplier relationships, and distributor dynamics.
* Experience with inventory planning, vintage transitions, pricing, margin analysis, supplier communication, and portfolio data management.
* Excellent Excel and data-management skills required.
* Strong computer skills and comfort working with business systems, reporting tools, databases, shared files, and digital workflows.
* ERP, Power BI, QuickBooks, Odoo, Microsoft Dynamics, Traverse, or similar system experience preferred.
* Interest in learning and applying AI tools, automation, and modern technology to improve business processes and reporting.
* Excellent organizational, communication, and follow-through skills.
* Wine knowledge strongly preferred; WSET, CSW, CMS, or equivalent experience a plus.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, commercially minded, and highly comfortable with technology. This person should be able to manage portfolio details, communicate clearly with winery partners, improve inventory discipline, strengthen data accuracy, and support profitable sales growth.

We are looking for someone who is not only experienced in wine operations and supplier communication, but also curious, systems-oriented, and willing to use modern tools — including AI to make the company more efficient, accurate, and scalable.

Compensation

Competitive base salary, performance bonus opportunity, car/cell allowance, and benefits package based on experience.
