Cellar Technician II Job Description

Overall Responsibilities
The Cellar Technician II is responsible for performing wine production operations as directed by the Cellar Master and Production Manager. The Cellar Technician II will perform cellar operations accurately, in a safe, efficient and timely manner, ensuring the wines are cared for at the highest level by adhering to the quality standards set by the winery and each client winemaker.

This position reports to the Cellar Master.

Specific Responsibilities

•  Follow direction given by the Cellar Master and Production Manager. Ask questions for clarification and to prevent mistakes.
•  Read, understand and follow work orders. Submit work orders through Innovint.
•  Understand the winery’s procedures for all cellar activities, sanitation and safety.
•  Understand the purpose of the chemicals used at the winery and how to safely use them.
•  Perform all cellar activities including topping, barrel maintenance, additions, racking, crush operations, etc.
•  Perform all cleaning and sanitation operations for all tools and equipment.
•  Maintain a clean winery and workspace.
•  Take an active role in forklifting- moving and stacking barrels, unloading trucks, etc.
•  Operate all equipment including pumps, basket press, pneumatic press, crush equipment, etc.
•  Perform work accurately and efficiently.
•  Follow safety protocols and make safe choices for the safety of yourself and those around you.
•  Participate in winery hospitality events such as large tastings and dinners when needed.
•  Smell and taste wines from barrel, tank, or keg, as directed, for quality control.
•  Participate in team tastings when offered

Other responsibilities and tasks may be assigned.

Job Requirements
•  2+ years prior cellar experience.
•  Previous experience in a luxury Napa winery and/or custom crush winery.
•  Proficient in reading and writing in English.
•  Spanish proficiency.
•  Skilled in hands-on cellar operations and in operating most types of cellar equipment.
•  Willing and able to work overtime and weekends as needed.
•  Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
•  Certified to drive a forklift.
•  Able to lift +40#s, climb ladders, work in hot/cold and wet environments, and work long hours.
•  Must have a current driver’s license and insurance. Must be currently legal to work in the United States.
