Williams Selyem is looking for a permanent, full-time cellar worker. Under the direct supervision of the Cellarmaster and Assistant Cellarmasters, the Cellar Worker will perform a variety of cellar operations supporting all aspects of the winemaking process.
The ideal candidate will have experience in crush operations, bottling, and general cellar work, and must be willing to work night shifts and extended overtime during harvest season.
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Contribute to a safe working environment
• Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment
• Operate forklifts for movement of barrels, case goods, and other winery materials
• Transport barrels and winery materials between winemaking facilities
• Perform barrel operations including racking, filling, topping, and barrel maintenance
• Handle grapes and operate crush equipment, including destemmers, bucket presses and bladder presses
• Accurately complete work orders and production documentation
• Perform additions to wine and juice according to winemaking protocols
• During bottling season, rotate through bottling line assignments including forklift operation, dump station, case packing, palletizing, and shrink wrapping
• Maintain sanitation standards for all winery facilities and equipment, including tanks, pumps, hoses, and production areas
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Winemaker, Associate Winemaker, Cellarmaster, and/or Assistant Cellarmasters
Qualifications
• Minimum of 3 years of previous winery cellar experience required
• Thorough knowledge of winery equipment and cellar operations. Strong understanding of cellar logistics and operations with a high attention to detail
• Reliable, with a strong work ethic and desire to grow within the company
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions in English
• Must be willing and able to work flexible schedules, including night shifts, weekends, overtime, and extended hours during harvest season
• Valid California Driver’s License with a clean DMV record
Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to:
• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds repeatedly
• Stand and walk on concrete surfaces for extended periods
• Roll, move, and lift empty 60-gallon wine barrels, when necessary
• Complete respiratory medical screening requirements
Work Environment
• Work in winery cellar environments with cool temperatures and moderate noise levels
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and dry conditions
• Perform confined space entry as required
• Occasionally work around fermentation gases and cellar fumes
• Work safely around heavy machinery and moving equipment including conveyors, augers, destemmers, forklifts, ladders, and scissor lifts
