Position Overview
Colterris Winery is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Cellar Technician / Enologist-in-Training to support daily winery operations while developing technical winemaking skills. This is a hands-on role that blends traditional cellar work with increasing exposure to lab work, data tracking, and winemaking decision-making.
The ideal candidate is dependable, curious, and eager to grow within a production-focused winery environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Cellar Operations (Core Duties):
-Tank and equipment cleaning (CIP and manual)
-Wine transfers, racking, and blending
-Barrel work: filling, topping, stirring, and maintenance
-Filtration and bottling line support
-Additions and adjustments (SO2, nutrients, fining agents, etc.)
-General cellar organization and sanitation
-Forklift operation (or willingness to learn)
-Assist with harvest operations (crush, press, fermentation management)
-Monitor fermentations (Brix, temperature, sensory checks)
-Support blending trials and bench work
Enology Development (Training Component):
-Perform basic lab analysis (pH, TA, SO2, etc.)
-Learn interpretation of lab data in winemaking decisions
-Assist winemaker with trials and evaluations
-Participate in tastings and quality control discussions
General Winery Support:
-Facility upkeep (including light landscaping such as mowing)
-Cross-functional help during busy periods (including tasting room/winery events)
-Miscellaneous tasks as needed in a small-team environment
Qualifications:
-Prior winery or cellar experience preferred
-Basic understanding of winemaking processes is a plus
-Strong work ethic and willingness to perform physically demanding tasks
-Interest in growing into a more technical/enological role
-Ability to follow protocols and maintain attention to detail
-Forklift experience preferred (or willingness to become certified)
-Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work on feet for extended periods
