SUMMARY

The Associate Winemaker is responsible for daily activities related to the coordination of wine production through winegrowing, crush, fermentation, clarification, aging, blending and bottling. They will develop wine programs consistent with the brand strategy for Eco Terreno Wines and Vineyards. Responsibilities include analyzing wine, juice and vineyard samples. In charge of bottling purchasing supplies, maintaining bottling quality control, completing required records, and evaluating vineyards from pruning to harvest. Finally, will be responsible and acting as point of contact for Executive Winemaker (Owner & Founder).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

WINEMAKING
•  Oversee all aspects of winemaking from vineyard to bottle.
•  Provides direction in custom crush cellar processes and management of grapes, juices, and wines
•  Working with the custom crush winemaking team to verify cellar operations exist to ensure wine quality
•  Ensure SOPs and protocols are being adhered to and working with and submitting paperwork to CCOF.
•  Issues instructions to custom crush winemakers for all production related tasks from harvest to bottling
•  Manages harvest timing and fermentation decisions ensuring optimum wine quality
•  Collaborate with Executive Winemaker on wine blends and new wines. Participate in wine tasting at all stages to ensure quality.
•  In charge of purchasing wine making supplies, barrels and bottling supplies
•  Sell bulk wine and used barrels
•  Completing wine tech sheets and maintaining wine records and tasting notes.
•  Directly involved in viticultural practices to ensure quality and achieve winemaking goals
•  Monitor and update plans and make changes as they occur, and communicate any changes to the custom crush winemaking team
•  Attend seminars, trade shows, and industry events to become educated in new products, systems, procedures, or standards
•  Help when available at Farmer’s Market
•  Sell wine grapes
•  Work and assist vineyard team
•  Other duties as assigned


JOB REQUIREMENTS
•  3+ years of relevant, commercial winemaking or enologist experience
•  Bachelor’s degree in Fermentation Science/Enology or related science
•  Experience with both the practical and technical aspects of the winemaking process and cellar management
•  Detail oriented
•  Strong observational skills
•  The ability to work and contribute as a team member
•  Spanish speaking preferred
•  Oral and written skills in English and some Spanish.
•  Understand budgeting, computer skills, including spreadsheets, word processing, and database programs
•  Social skills to interact with wine salespeople, wine club members and the public.
•  Motivated to sell and promote Eco Terreno Wines & Vineyards.

OTHER PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
•  Technical machinery operations experience

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
•  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:
•  Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense and problem-solving skills

COMPUTER SKILLS:
•  Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Outlook

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Most duties will be performed indoors, occasionally outdoors in the vineyard
