Position Summary
The Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring the company operates in full compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws governing beverage alcohol production, sales, taxation, environmental health, and facility operations. This role oversees regulatory licensing, tax reporting (including sales and use tax and excise tax), recordkeeping, inspections, and insurance compliance. The Compliance Specialist serves as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and ensures internal processes align with evolving legal requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Licensing & Reporting
• Maintain and manage all required federal, state, and local permits and licenses, including those issued by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau and the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC).
• Prepare and submit required reports, renewals, and documentation to maintain licenses in good standing.
• Monitor regulatory updates and implement operational changes to maintain compliance.
• Oversee preparation, filing, and payment of:
o Federal Excise Tax Reports
o Texas Excise Tax Reports
o Texas sales and use tax filings with the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts
• Maintain detailed documentation to support all filings and audits.
• Oversee compliance with septic, wastewater, and environmental health standards under the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and local county authorities.
• Maintain documentation related to wastewater disposal, septic capacity, and environmental permits.
• Coordinate required inspections and corrective actions.
Qualifications
Required:
• 3–5+ years of compliance, regulatory, accounting, or operations experience in a regulated industry (beverage alcohol preferred).
• Strong knowledge of Texas alcohol laws and tax requirements.
• Experience working with federal and state regulatory agencies.
• High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Proficiency with accounting systems, POS systems, and Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to manage deadlines associated with recurring regulatory filings.
Preferred:
• Prior winery, brewery, or distillery compliance experience.
• Familiarity with TTB reporting systems (e.g., Permits Online, COLAs Online).
• Experience preparing for or managing regulatory audits.
