The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing and supporting key accounting functions, including general ledger, reconciliations, financial reporting, and compliance. This role plays an important part in the month-end close process and helps ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data. The position operates with a solid degree of independence while continuing to develop technical and analytical expertise.
Support the oversight of accounting operations, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, fixed asset management, and variance analysis.
Take ownership of assigned areas of the close process, with increasing responsibility over time.
Prepare and analyze weekly and monthly reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper coding to the general ledger.
Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Perform and review account reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
Oversee cash activity, including monitoring collections, bank activity, and account balances.
Monitor payables, payments, budget variances, and other important trends.
Maintain and follow internal controls in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements to protect company assets and mitigate risk.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and support business operations.
Assist with audit preparation and provide support during external audits.
Support tax reporting and compliance requirements.
Conduct technical accounting research and provide input on complex accounting issues.
Provide assistance and backup support to AP/AR staff, including reviewing work and answering questions.
Provide backup support for the Accounting Manager, ensuring key accounting processes are complete and deadlines are met during periods of absence.
Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
Wine Industry experience strongly preferred
4–6 years of progressive accounting experience, including general ledger and month-end close exposure
Working knowledge of GAAP
Experience with ERP systems (Business Central and Continia preferred)
Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, XLOOKUP, data analysis)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
High attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams
Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment
