Manager, Supply Planning & Procurement

The Hess Collection Winery

American Canyon, CA

Job Description:

JOB DESCRIPTION
This is a critical, company-wide role responsible for end-to-end procurement and supply planning that ensures uninterrupted bottling operations. The Supply Planning and Procurement Manager owns sourcing strategy, supplier relationships, dry goods inventory, and ERP execution—driving on-time, in-full availability of all materials and services. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with deep wine-industry connections, a high sense of ownership, and the ability to lead cross-functionally with urgency and accountability.

ABOUT US:
Passion, dedication and perseverance have been the guiding principles of Hess Persson Estates since Donald Hess founded the winery in 1978. Lead by the next generation of Hess Family, we honor Donald’s legacy through our world-renowned Napa Valley wines. We pride ourselves in providing a space for our employees’ talents to shine, encouraging professional growth, and prioritizing a positive culture where we celebrate our company wins together.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
•  Own all procurement (direct and indirect) company-wide, from sourcing strategy through purchase execution and issue resolution.
•  Annual budget ownership for purchased goods/services; negotiate pricing and terms, and track savings and PPV (purchase price variance).
•  Build and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) for finished goods and packaging configurations; ensure accuracy and change control in partnership with Operations, Winemaking, Finance, and Quality.
•  Packaging engineering ownership: partner with bottling/operations to define specifications, improve packaging performance, and standardize components where possible.
•  Vendor performance management: establish KPIs (OTIF, quality, responsiveness, cost), run regular business reviews, and drive corrective actions.
•  Own and administer RFPs for dry goods, co-pack/bottling support, and other third-party services; evaluate bids, recommend awards, and manage transitions.
•  Ensure on-time and in-full delivery of all materials required to support bottling—preventing downtime driven by dry goods timing, quality, or availability.
•  Own dry goods inventory management, including inventory policy, replenishment parameters, cycle counts, and inventory accuracy.
•  ERP item creation and master data: create and maintain item records, vendor data, lead times, MOQ/pack sizes, pricing, and specifications (as applicable).
•  ERP bottling work order creation and management; serve as the primary supply planning contact company-wide, coordinating demand requirements with procurement and inventory.
•  Primary supply planning contact for third-party services (e.g., co-packers, contract bottlers, freight/warehousing partners), aligning materials readiness with service schedules.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
•  8+ years of progressive experience in procurement, supply planning, and/or materials management in a manufacturing environment; wine/spirits/beverage industry experience strongly preferred.
•  Established network in the wine industry across dry goods suppliers, packaging partners, and third-party service providers; demonstrated ability to leverage relationships to solve problems quickly.
•  Experience managing annual procurement budgets, forecasting, and variance tracking (e.g., PPV).
•  Hands-on experience managing dry goods for bottling operations (glass, closures, labels, cartons, shippers, pallets, etc.).
•  Proven track record of leading price negotiations, RFPs, and supplier selection with measurable cost, service, and quality outcomes.
•  Experience building and maintaining BOMs and packaging specifications; comfort collaborating on packaging design changes and line-trial learnings.
•  ERP proficiency (item master, purchasing, inventory, and production/work orders); ability to translate operational needs into clean master data and executable plans.
•  Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, Operations, or related field (or equivalent experience).

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS & PERKS
•  Competitive pay rate.
•  Annual bonus and merit increase programs.
•  Comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental and vision insurance.
•  Short and long term disability, AD&D, and life insurance plans 100% paid by the employer.
•  401k plan with a 100% company match up to first 6% an employee contributes.
•  Paid Time Off (starting at 3 weeks vacation accrual, 5 sick and 10 paid holidays).
•  Wine Club Membership to Hess Persson Estates (per availability of the wines).
•  Employee wine discount.
•  A work environment where you can be your authentic self and be a part of a winning team!
