Winemaker — Ser Kem Wines / Bhutan Wine Company
Ser Kem Wines, the first commercial winery in the Kingdom of Bhutan, is seeking a pioneering winemaker to help shape one of the most distinctive wine projects in the world. This is a rare opportunity to build a wine program from the ground up in a country with no established viticultural tradition — and to do it at elevation, with indigenous and international grape varieties, in one of the most breathtaking landscapes on earth.

Reporting to company leadership, the Winemaker will oversee all aspects of cellar operations in our winery in Thimphu. The role requires both deep technical expertise and genuine adaptability — you will be solving problems that no winemaking textbook has addressed, in a place where infrastructure, supply chains, and regulatory frameworks are still being written.

Responsibilities include: managing harvest and fermentation across multiple varieties; developing and refining our signature Ser Kem expression; maintaining quality standards for international export markets including the EU, US, and Japan; training and mentoring local winery staff; and collaborating with our advisory team on viticulture research and varietal trials.

Qualifications: Minimum five years winemaking experience; formal enology training required; international experience preferred, particularly in emerging or high-altitude wine regions. A spirit of exploration and commitment to Bhutan's cultural and environmental values are essential. English fluency is a must have. Must be able to live in Bhutan in Summer and Fall. Both full time and part time opportunities are available, but in either case physical presence in Bhutan during harvest is required.
