About the Role:
Sparkman Cellars is a Washington State winery committed to producing high quality, distinctive, terroir-driven wines from the Pacific Northwest. As we grow our self-distribution footprint across the state, we are looking for a driven, personable, and wine-passionate Sales Representative to join our team.
This is a ground-floor opportunity for someone who thrives on building relationships, loves the hospitality industry, and wants to represent wines they believe in — without the constraints of a large distributor portfolio. You will be the face of Sparkman Cellars in the market, responsible for growing and maintaining accounts across on-premise (restaurants, bars, hotels) and off-premise (retail wine shops, specialty grocers) channels.
Key Responsibilities:
Account Development & Sales
• Prospect, open, and develop new on-premise and off-premise accounts within your assigned territory
• Manage and grow an existing book of accounts through regular visits, relationship building, and strategic selling
• Negotiate placement, pricing, and programming with buyers and owners
• Achieve monthly and annual sales targets as set by ownership/management
Self-Distribution Operations
• Coordinate order fulfillment in compliance with Washington State self-distribution laws and LCB regulations
• Manage route logistics including scheduling deliveries and pickups within your territory
• Maintain accurate records of sales orders, invoices, and delivery confirmations
• Ensure proper handling, temperature control, and presentation of product in transit and at point of delivery
• Collect payments and reconcile accounts in a timely manner per company policy
Brand Representation & Education
• Conduct staff trainings, wine dinners, and trade tastings to build account engagement and product knowledge
• Represent Sparkman Cellars at consumer events, trade shows, and winery-hosted experiences
• Serve as a knowledgeable ambassador for the wineries’ stories, winemaking philosophies, and AVAs
• Collaborate with the tasting room and marketing teams to ensure consistent brand messaging
Reporting & Communication
• Maintain up-to-date account information and activity logs in the CRM system
• Provide regular territory reports including pipeline updates, competitive intelligence, and market feedback
• Communicate inventory needs and timing with the winery team to ensure adequate stock levels
Qualifications:
Required
• Minimum 2 years of beverage alcohol sales experience, preferably in wine
• Demonstrated understanding of Washington State LCB regulations governing self-distribution
• Existing relationships with on- and/or off-premise buyers in your territory is a strong plus
• Valid Washington State driver's license and clean driving record; reliable vehicle required
• Ability to lift and carry cases of wine (up to 50 lbs) regularly
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills
• Self-motivated with the ability to manage your own schedule and territory independently
• Current MAST permit
Preferred
• WSET Level 1 or higher, CSW, or equivalent wine education certification
• Familiarity with Washington wine regions and AVAs
• Experience using CRM tools
• Existing network within the greater Puget Sound region
Territory:
Primary territory will cover Tacoma / Olympia / South Puget Sound, or Edmonds / Bellingham / Skagit / North Puget Sound.
Occasional travel to other Washington markets may be required for events and account support.
Compensation & Benefits:
• Base salary: $50K - $60K DOE, plus a healthy commission on sales
• Mileage reimbursement or vehicle allowance
• Wine allocation and employee discount
• Health benefits
• Paid time off and winery event access
• Opportunity to grow with a small, passionate, and quality-focused team that has big goals for the near future.
Washington State Self-Distribution Note:
Washington State law permits licensed wineries producing under 250,000 gallons annually to self-distribute their own wine directly to retailers and restaurants. All sales and delivery activity must comply with Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (LCB) requirements. The successful candidate will be expected to understand and operate within these regulatory parameters.
Please send a resume and a brief cover letter telling us about your wine background and the accounts or relationships you would bring to this role. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
