About us:
Mill Creek Vineyards is a family-owned winery celebrating more than fifty years of winemaking in the heart of Sonoma County. As farmers first, we pride ourselves on crafting wines rooted in heritage, sustainability, and thoughtful innovation. Our team is small, hands on, and passionate about producing wines that reflect the distinct character of Dry Creek Valley. If you are looking to join a close-knit team with a focus on quality, Mill Creek Vineyards is the place for you.
The role:
We are looking for a skilled cellar hand who wants to own the craft side of winemaking, the daily work that actually makes the wine. This is a solo role outside of harvest. You will work closely with our winemaker, carry out cellar operations independently, and take real satisfaction in knowing that what you do each day ends up in the bottle.
What the work looks like day to day:
The role changes significantly by season, which keeps it from ever feeling routine. Outside of harvest, most days are quiet and self-directed, focused on wine maintenance, lab work, barrel care, and equipment upkeep. You will create and work through a clear list of tasks with the winemaker available when decisions need to be made together.
During harvest, the pace is faster with long days and physical work. A harvest intern is hired for a few months. You will show them how things are done and oversee their success.
Responsibilities:
Carry out all cellar operations including wine maintenance, topping, sampling, SO2 additions, and basic lab work
Execute crush pad work including grape sampling, cap management, fermentation monitoring, barreling, and additions
Prepare wines for bottling including blending, fining, stabilization, and filtration
Participate in blending trials and stylistic decisions with the winemaker
Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair cellar equipment as needed
Keep the cellar clean, organized, and operating to sanitation and safety standards
Help orient the harvest intern for two months when they are on site
What we are looking for:
Minimum two full harvests of cellar experience in a production winery
Solid working knowledge of winemaking processes, equipment, and safety
Comfortable with physical, hands on work including lifting up to 60 pounds, long days on your feet, ladders, catwalks, and confined spaces
Forklift certified or experienced
Organized, detail oriented, and reliable, someone who follows through without being reminded
Someone who genuinely prefers working independently and finds satisfaction in the craft itself
Preferred:
Degree in enology, viticulture, or a related field
Four or more harvests of experience
Compensation and benefits:
Hourly rate
$25 to $28
Paid personal days
5 days
Wine discount
