Looking to hire a Director of Accounting and Finance for a private, estate-based production facility in Santa Barbara County This position manages the full accounting cycle from vineyard management costs to final bottling. Key responsibilities include monthly financial prep, internal controls, and overseeing AP/AR and payroll. This position provides critical data for capital expenditure and production planning. CPA or CMA preferred; wine industry experience is mandatory.

Core Responsibilities
•  Wine Inventory Costing: Track and assign costs to each wine through the entire production cycle—from harvest and fermentation to aging and bottling. This includes allocating overhead equipment such as utilities and equipment depreciation to the cost of goods sold (COGS).
•  Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP. They also provide custom reports on key performance indicators like revenue growth and operating profit.
•  Regulatory Compliance: Oversee complex compliance matters, including TTB (Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau) and state liquor board filings, sales tax, and property tax.
•  Accounting Operations: Manage day-to-day functions such as accounts payable/receivable (AP/AR), general ledger maintenance, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
•  Budgeting & Forecasting: Develop annual operating budgets at the department level and create long-term financial projections for capital projects like vineyard development.
•  Internal Controls: Establish and enforce policies and procedures to safeguard winery assets and ensure data integrity.


Key Qualifications
•  Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; an MBA, CPA, or CMA is often preferred.
•  Experience: Typically requires 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within the wine or manufacturing industry.
•  Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software Business Central, Wine Direct, Payroll, etc.
•  Soft Skills: Strong analytical ability, attention to detail, and the leadership skills necessary to mentor a small accounting team.
