Position Overview
The Communications Specialist helps bring our clients’ stories to life through media relations and earned media initiatives across Solterra’s portfolio of tourism, wine, and hospitality brands. This role plays a key part in creating meaningful media engagement and ensuring journalists and content creators have a seamless, compelling experience when working with our clients.

Working closely with the Communications Director, you’ll support media outreach, develop press materials, coordinate media visits, and assist with influencer partnerships.

Key Responsibilities
Media Visit Planning and Itinerary Development
•  Plan and coordinate media visits for journalists and content creators ensuring a seamless experience
•  Develop detailed itineraries showcasing client destinations, wineries, restaurants, and experiences
•  Coordinate schedules and logistics with hospitality partners and internal team members

Media Relations
•  Build and maintain targeted media lists for various client campaigns
•  Draft, edit, and distribute press releases and media materials
•  Assist with proactive media pitching, partner submission calls, and responding to journalist inquiries
•  Track media coverage and support ongoing relationship management with reporters and editors
•  Attend media-oriented or partner events to support relationship building and media engagement

Influencer Partnerships
•  Identify and vet content creators and influencers aligned with client campaigns
•  Support planning and coordination of influencer visits and collaborations
•  Assist in managing deliverables and partnership expectations

Media Reporting and Client Reporting
•  Track earned media coverage and campaign performance
•  Compile media reports and coverage summaries
•  Prepare client-facing reports highlighting media placements, campaign activity, and results

Project Management
•  Support coordination of communications initiatives across multiple clients
•  Manage timelines, media materials, and campaign deliverables
•  Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent messaging and execution
•  Track event calendars and identify submission opportunities across client accounts

Supervisory Responsibilities May assist with the supervision and coordination of seasonal interns.

Qualifications
•  2+ years of experience in communications, public relations, media relations, or related field
•  Strong writing, editing, and storytelling ability with the capacity to craft clear, compelling communications
•  Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines across multiple clients and partners
•  Familiarity with media relations and press outreach
•  Experience reviewing and editing social media, email, and digital content
•  Comfortable with platforms such as MailChimp, Asana, and media monitoring tools such as Muck Rack, Meltwater or similar a plus
•  Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Dropbox, etc
•  Ability to represent the organization professionally with media and partners
•  Openness to feedback and willingness to refine work product quickly

Preferred Qualifications
•  Graphic design experience preferred (Canva, InDesign or similar)
•  Familiarity with AI-assisted tools used for research, drafting, and content development, with the ability to evaluate and refine outputs to ensure accuracy, quality, and brand alignment
•  Exposure to influencer identification and vetting tools (e.g., Aspire, Upfluence) is a plus
•  Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or a related field is preferred
