Job Description:

At Domaine Serene, we are dedicated to producing world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay through innovation, attention to detail, and an uncompromising commitment to quality and sustainability. We’re looking for a detail driven Enologist to play a key role in supporting our winemaking team, ensuring excellence from fermentation through bottling in one of Oregon’s most respected wineries.

Enologist Mission:
The Enologist is responsible for the coordination of all laboratory operations, supporting the Domaine Serene winemaking team by ensuring wine quality. Primary role is managing the laboratory schedule, coordinating sampling needs, conducting analysis, organizing blending trials, tracking bulk wine and enological supply inventory, oversight of bulk wine and bottling quality control protocols, and updating data management systems.
Core Position Expectations:
•  Organize the bulk wine analysis QC schedule, sample preparation and participate in tasting panel.
•  Perform all in-house laboratory analysis, bench trials and arrange outside lab testing.
•  Manage the maintenance, calibration, standardization, and accuracy of all laboratory equipment including research and development of advancements in technology.
•  Maintain accurate record keeping and data entry into Vintrace management systems and internal documents.
•  Purchase, track and perform quarterly inventory of laboratory and enological supplies.
•  Oversee and execute quality control operations for bottling, disgorging, microbial stability, and sensory evaluation.
•  Cultivate a well-versed understanding of all winemaking procedures and production protocols.
•  Carry out basic cellar operations such as additions and sampling.
•  Training of interns and cellar staff in laboratory and cellar operations.
•  Monitor and document analysis from primary fermentation and malolactic conversion.
•  Arrange vineyard maturity sampling, processing, and data collection.
•  Assist with white winery operations during harvest including fruit receival, pressing and tank coordination.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:
•  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and delegate tasks as appropriate.
•  Excellent understanding of cellar operations and willingness to learn.
•  Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to multi-task and adjust priorities to meet deadlines on short notice.
•  Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and research and resolve problems.
•  Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels of an organization.
•  Participation in Domaine Serene’s Safety Program.
•  Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
•  Possession of a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
•  Ability to read and understand all Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
•  Ability to perform all job functions in strict adherence to company health and safety protocols, and in accordance with quality control standards.
•  The ability to work long, variable hours during harvest and bottling.

Minimum Qualifications:
•  Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Enology, Biology, Chemistry or related field.
•  Minimum 3+ years in wine or beverage production experience is required.
•  Experience conducting and assessing the accuracy of various wine chemistry analyses.
•  Proficient in MS Office Suite with Vintrace experience preferred.
•  Forklift and cellar operations a plus.
