Summary:
Our vineyard management company seeking an entry level viticulturist to join our company. We are located in Saint Helena, and farm vineyards in Sonoma and Napa County. This position will provide technical and field support to the Operations/Viticulture team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Irrigation and fertility activities
o Daily water scouting of all ranches and blocks.
o Record and submit field observations and recommendations to Supervisor.
o Create written Standard Operating Procedures for all irrigation activities.
o Ensure that all irrigation and fertility activities meet agreed upon expectations.
o Daily upkeep of the irrigation and fertilizer schedules and inventory sheets
o Responsible for data input and organization using field sheet templates, and creation of reports as needed.
o Identify and track measurable outcomes of any applied irrigation or fertilizer.
o Prioritize and organize work schedule based on seasonal pressure.
o Material inventory and organization
o Assist in management of viticultural databases; AgCode as well as spreadsheets.
• Viticulture team activities
o Support with viticulture activities as needed and directed by Management
o Scout vineyards as needed and directed by supervisor for pests and disease issues, along with phenological data and vine water status.
o Entering and report findings to management department and daily entries into AgCode.
o Remove, deploy, inspect and identify insects in various traps within vineyard sites.
o Gather and input scouting and phenological information into AgCode Software and generate reports for management.
o Collect soil, water and plant tissue (leaves, blades) and virus samples as needed.
o Perform cluster counts and estimates as needed and entering all information into AgCode daily.
o Assist with harvest activities including but not limited to; maturity sampling, lab work, weigh master, reporting etc.
o Attend relevant viticulture seminars and continue education to stay current on vineyard issues.
o Oversee CCOF, ROC and Fish Friendly Farming certifications.
Qualifications
• Valid California Driver's License
• Some Viticulture or Enology coursework
• Excellent computer skills to include Excel, Word, Access
• Bi-lingual a plus
• Must have good culture, be a self-starter with strong work ethic and good communication skills. Also, must be able to work independently for extended periods of time and remain on task. Person must be able to work outside for extended lengths of time during periods of extreme weather. PAY RANGE:
• $23-$25 DOE
