Turnbull is a privately-owned winery, embedded in the history and culture of the Napa Valley since 1979. We craft some of the Napa Valley’s best wines in the heart of Oakville, sourcing from our four estate vineyards located in Oakville and Calistoga. Ours is a community of farmers, makers, hosts, and passionate, like-minded individuals who abide by a culture of respect and integrity in the workplace to allow one another to thrive professionally and personally in a rewarding environment.
Turnbull Wine Cellars is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and hospitality-driven leader to truly own the day-to-day success of our tasting room. This is a hands-on, guest-facing management role for someone who thrives on the floor — leading by example through service, sales, coaching, and team development.
This full-time role reports to the DTC Sales & Marketing Director and is responsible for driving the tasting room’s guest experience, sales performance, staff excellence, and overall operational execution. This is a 100% floor-based role. There is no traditional office component; leadership happens in real time on the tasting room floor.
This role partners closely with the DTC Sales Administrator for administrative support, including supply ordering, scheduling coordination, and other operational logistics.
Key Responsibilities
• Own the daily guest experience and service flow, ensuring every tasting is executed at the highest standard.
• Supervise all floor operations, managing guest flow and stepping in wherever to support the team—whether welcoming guests, conducting tastings, and/or processing orders
• Oversee thorough completion of opening/closing procedures, cash handling, and overall service execution.
• Drive tasting room sales performance by motivating the team, setting goals, and actively selling alongside staff.
• Develop and implement new ideas to hit sales goals and increase visitation, wine club sign-ups, and overall DTC revenue.
• Recruit, hire, onboard, train, coach, and mentor tasting room staff to build a high-performing hospitality team.
• Foster a positive, accountable, and high-performing team culture focused on hospitality and sales excellence.
• Provide consistent floor-based coaching, feedback, and accountability. Lead daily huddles and monthly check-ins to foster growth and review progress toward group and individual sales goals, wine club performance, and service standards.
• Track daily and monthly sales goals, incentives, and performance metrics, communicating clearly with the team.
• Manage timecards, commission and tip reporting, and sales tracking in partnership with the DTC Director and DTC Sales Administrator.
• Ensure the tasting room space is always guest-ready: clean, organized, stocked, and visually aligned with Turnbull’s brand standards.
• Maintain collateral, menus, displays, and seasonal décor to keep the environment polished and on point.
• Serve as POS and reservation system super-user (experience with Offset & Tock a plus).
• Ensure all relevant SKUs, bundles, and menus are accurate and up to date on POS
• Ensure all wine shipping orders are accurately entered, tracked, and scheduled in a timely manner.
• Handle guest issues with professionalism and warmth, ensuring effective service recovery, tracking guest feedback, and promoting long-term customer retention
• Oversee tasting room inventory management, including wine, merchandise, and supplies, in collaboration with the DTC Sales Administrator
• Support inventory organization and assist with monthly cycle counts.
• Coordinate directly with the maintenance team to inform of any needed repairs, maintenance, etc.
• Keep leadership up-to-date on strategy, staff performance, and customer feedback to continually improve operations and sales
• Ensure adherence to all applicable laws and policies, including alcohol service, credit card handling, wage and hour compliance, and workplace safety. Track and report any staff or guest incidents.
• Work onsite events as needed, including occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the DTC Director.
Qualifications
• Proven leadership experience in a tasting room, restaurant, or luxury hospitality environment.
• Strong sales ability and comfort leading from the floor, not from behind a desk.
• Demonstrated success in coaching, mentoring, and developing hospitality teams.
• Highly organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication skills with guests, peers, and leadership.
• Commitment to delivering exceptional guest experiences and driving results.
• Must be 21+ years of age.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
• Schedule includes weekends and occasional holidays/evenings.
Benefits & Perks
