The Assistant Winemaker supports all facets of winery operations, bridging production, administrative accuracy, and guest experience. This role works closely with the Winemaker to execute day to day cellar tasks, maintain meticulous production records, and occasionally lead educational tours that reflect the winery’s standards of hospitality and craftsmanship.
This is a hands on, detail driven position ideal for someone who enjoys both the technical and the human sides of winemaking.
• ?? Key Responsibilities
Production & Cellar Operations
• Assist with all winemaking activities including crush, press operations, racking, blending, filtration, and bottling.
• Perform routine wine and juice analysis and additions following established SOPs.
• Conduct sanitation of tanks, hoses, barrels, and equipment to maintain a clean, safe cellar environment.
• Monitor fermentations, perform punch downs/pump overs, and record daily Brix and temperature
• Support barrel management: topping, SO2 checks, organization, and inventory.
• Maintain accurate production logs and compliance ready documentation.
• Assist and monitor in the vineyard
• ?? Wine Club & Administrative Support
• Help maintain customer updates into the P.O.S. system with precision.
• Assist with club processing tasks such as order batching, fulfillment prep, and shipment accuracy checks.
• Track inventory movements between production and retail systems to ensure alignment.
• Support reporting needs for club metrics, allocations, and member engagement.
• Communicate with the wine club team to ensure smooth member experiences.
• ? Hospitality & Tours
• Lead small group tours and educational tastings that highlight the winemaking process and estate philosophy.
• Represent the production team during special events, release weekends, and VIP experiences.
• Provide approachable, accurate explanations of cellar practices, grape varieties, and vintage conditions.
• Maintain a professional, guest focused presence while balancing production responsibilities.
• ? Qualifications
• Prior cellar experience preferred; willingness to learn required.
• Strong attention to detail, especially in data entry and recordkeeping.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs, work on feet for extended periods, and operate in a physically demanding environment.
• Comfortable speaking with guests and communicating technical concepts in an engaging way.
• Familiarity with winery software (OrderPort, Tock and InnoVint etc.) is a plus.
• Team oriented mindset with flexibility during harvest and event periods.
