We are a family-owned and operated winery in between Calistoga and St Helena that features interesting and ever-changing Wine and Food pairings for our guests. As we prepare for the year ahead of us, we are looking for a few part-time Estate Hosts to join our ranks and deliver elevated and personal hospitality in a beautiful setting. The person that would be the right fit for us would have a passion for taking care of and connecting with people from all walks of life. Being high energy, a team player, and a self-starter are all qualities we would look for in a candidate for this position. Having a genuine interest in sharing great wine, great food, and fun stories all while giving a personalized experience would be the ultimate key to the elevated Hospitality that we strive to offer. Saturday availability would be required for this position.
What We Do – We are a reservation-only winery that specializes in Wine and Food Pairings. We are a fairly new winery, and we are still finding new ways of appreciating our guests and our wine club members with reasons to visit us multiple times a year.
• We offer a range of wine and food pairings, from our 2-course small bite tasting, to our most opulent 5-course tasting.
• We change our wine and food pairing menu 7-8 times a year, with a focus on pairing unique dishes and preparations with the wines selected. The pairings focus on transforming humble ingredients and showcasing different ways of enjoying our predominately Red Wine leaning selections with food.
• We encourage our guests and members to recreate their favorite dishes from our wine and food pairings by sharing the recipes with them as they leave, in a home cook friendly format.
• We host 6 dinners a year for our members and their guests, and create unique menus for each one with changing seasons and wine. We also host a few day-time member events throughout the year. Our Part-time hosts would only have to participate in the day-time events.
The Role – The Part-time Estate Host would report to the Director of Hospitality, and would work with the Hospitality and Culinary team while hosting their groups. From setting up tables and opening wines at the beginning of the day, to processing and packing their own wine sales orders, the Estate Host participates in every step of the process in hosting their guests.
• The Estate Hosts would host anywhere from 2 to 4 groups in a day, and 1 group at a time. While Teamwork is an essential part of this role, the Estate hosts are responsible for the set up and clearing of their own tables, and ensuring they conclude their tastings with ample time to prepare their table for the next guests that will be arriving.
• The Estate Hosts are expected to read the information and notes on their guests prior to their arrival. They are expected to greet their guests, and guide them through their individual tasting experiences. We do not do group tours or experiences where people are paired with guests they did not arrive with.
• The Estate Hosts are expected to share the stories and history of Davis Estates in a conversational format, and not as though they are reading off a script. We expect our hosts to understand the information about Davis Estates, but we strive for our hosts to offer individual experiences for their guests while building personal connections with them. There is no “Cookie Cutter” or “One Size Fits All” approach to how we host our guests.
• The Estate Host communicates to the Culinary Team when they are ready for them to fire their courses, with respect to time expectations for each tasting experience. The Estate host is also expected to run their own food to their guests as well.
• The Estate Hosts guide their guests through the Food and Wine pairing, educating them on unique ingredients and preparations, and share with the guests how they might expect the wine to be influenced by the food and vice versa.
• The Estates Hosts are to act as a liaison for their guests during their experience, and share with them how to best acquire our wines or gain the opportunity to visit us multiple times a year through our membership.
• The Estate Hosts are expected to process their own carry out and shipping orders while the guests are still present, with a focus on accuracy and timeliness. Our hosts are expected to present a credit card receipt for signature to each group as well.
• The Estate Hosts are expected to personally say goodbye to their guests, and guide them out at the end of their tasting.
The Skills Required –
• Experience in wine sales, hospitality, or events, preferably within a luxury brand setting.
• Previous experience at a winery, hotel/resort, or restaurant is preferred.
• Formal wine training (Sommelier certification, WSET, or CSW) is a plus, but we are willing to train the right person.
• Passion and knowledge of the relationship between wine and food, with the ability to describe it confidently to guests.
• Proven sales track record and the ability to thrive in a small, team-oriented environment.
• Familiarity with Napa Valley restaurants and winery experiences is a plus.
• Genuine passion for building relationships with guests and fellow team members.
• Willingness to help wherever needed.
• Working knowledge of POS systems (eCellars experience is a plus).
• Excellent verbal, written, and in-person communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to providing a seamless guest experience.
• Ability to interact with all staff and guests in a positive and professional manner.
• Positive attitude and ability to work effectively within a team.
• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Ability to stand, walk and carry for prolonged periods of time.
• Ability to bend, stoop and lift at least 25-50 pounds.
