Stags Leap Wine Cellars is hiring a seasonal Grape-Lab Intern!
** $1500 Housing Stipend per Month for Qualified Candidates Relocating **
This internship offers a hybrid experience, beginning in the vineyards with grape sampling and transitioning into the laboratory to monitor fermentation through essential harvest analyses. The position runs from early to mid-July through mid to late November.
Essential Functions
• Gather, process, and record grape maturity samples.
• Assist with crop estimates, measurement of vine water status, pest and disease monitoring.
• Must be proficient in the ability to build and maintain Excel spreadsheets.
• Perform basic wet chemistry and enzymatic analysis for juice must and wine.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records.
• Conduct tank, barrel sampling, and perform nutrient additions.
• Monitor and record Brix and fermentation temperatures.
• Assist with bottling quality control (as needed).
• Interact with Custom Crush partners at offsite crush facilities and sister wineries.
• Perform basic cellar work as needed to support production.
• Work extended hours during harvest, including weekends as required.
• Performs all job functions in strict adherence to company Health and Safety protocols, and in accordance with quality control standards and standard equipment operating procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the team.
Working Conditions
• Ability and desire to work outdoors during inclement weather conditions on a regular basis.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time
• Ability to perform in an environment with regular exposure to various indoor and outdoor weather conditions.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift, bend, stoop, carry (up to 40 lbs.) over a variety of terrain, and use pruning shears.
• Job duties are performed primarily from a standing position
Qualifications
• College degree in related field or coursework working towards degree
• Knowledge of basic chemistry is required.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Reliable transportation, current insurance, and a clean DMV record.
• Knowledge of basic computer programs including Word and Excel.
• Ability to read, write and fluent in English.
• Commitment to excellence and high standards.
• Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work and learn within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
• Passion and interest for the wine industry desired.
• History of responsible use of alcohol and other appropriate conduct, as well as fitness to be licensed, permitted, and/or certified by state and/or local regulatory bodies.
