Position Summary:

The Assistant Winemaker is responsible for the oversight and execution of all barrel-related wine management activities, ensuring the health, integrity, and traceability of wines aging in barrel.
This role plays a critical operational and quality leadership function, managing topping programs, sulfur protocols, barrel inventory, wine movements, and cellar coordination. The Assistant Winemaker works closely with clients, cellar, lab, compliance, and production teams to maintain wine quality and accurate inventory within a multi-client, custom crush environment.

Duties/Responsibilities:

•  Client Communications -
•  Barrel Program Oversight – develop and manage structured topping schedules for all clients and lots. Oversee monthly sulfuring program, coordinate with cellar barrel team, maintain barrel maps, location tracking, topping material organization and topping.
•  Barrel Inventory and Lot Management
•  Assist Production Winemaker and Associate Winemaker with work order writing and organization, daily and weekly cellar schedules creation and cellar coordination.
•  Wine Health and Quality monitoring: Coordinate with clients and winery departments to ensure that robust protocols are created and followed to ensure good winemaking results.
•  Closely coordinate with cellar operations to ensure proper execution and timeliness.
•  Client communication and relationship management
•  Assists in the development of procedural and quality control manual.
•  Ability to work effectively in a strong team-oriented environment and support fellow team members as needed.


Education and Experience:

•  1-3 years winery production experience preferred, great role for dynamic and driven individual wanting to build a career in winemaking. Custom crush experience strongly preferred.
•  BS or BA degree in Enology or related science required.
•  Proficient in winemaking softwares such as Innovint and VinTrace. Well wersed with Microsoft Word and Excel
•  Knowledge/experience of wine laboratory and cellar procedures
•  Bilingual Skills Preferred

Required Skills/Abilities:

Highly organized and systems driven with professional written and verbal communication skills.
Detail oriented with strong follow through especially with client service mindset.
Working long hours as assigned at harvest including evening shift and weekend work. Occasional overtime during non-harvest period during busy bottling season.
Ability to perform and assist others in strong team environment
Environmental Science knowledge

Physical Requirements:

Full body mobility: standing; sitting; climbing stairs and ladders.
Ability to lift 50lbs

Reports to: Production Winemaker
Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 hours a day/Overtime
