The Cellar Master is responsible for overseeing all day-to-day cellar operations, leading and developing a team of full-time and seasonal staff to ensure the highest standards of wine quality, safety, and efficiency. This role manages workflow planning, implements and enforces SOPs, and coordinates closely with the winemaking team to meet production goals. The Cellar Master also maintains inventory of barrels and winery assets, oversees equipment maintenance, and ensures the cellar environment remains clean and organized. The position requires strong leadership skills, hands-on technical expertise, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Management of Cellar Staff:
Provide daily management of full-time and seasonal cellar staff.
Train, mentor, and foster the development of cellar staff, ensuring they understand and adhere to the highest quality standards in their work.
Maintain and implement cellar Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), with a strong focus on training and implementation among cellar staff.
Proactively plan and manage employee work assignments, cellar workflow, and tasks in an efficient and resourceful manner.
Participate in yearly performance reviews with cellar staff.
Act as a mentor to cellar staff, helping each team member to better themselves professionally and giving them an opportunity to work toward their career goals
Weekly meetings with the winemaking team to ensure production schedule and workflow goals are being met

Ongoing (Daily) Duties:
Coordinate all cellar work, making sure that work is adequately distributed in order to achieve successful winemaking outcomes
Lead daily team meetings and assign duties
Ensure the cellar and barrel rooms are maintained to the highest standard of cleanliness
Inventory management of barrels, kegs, and other wine vessels
Oversight of equipment, maintenance, and repair, including pre-harvest PM appointments and in-house equipment maintenance
Maintain a clean, organized cellar, including tank room, barrel rooms, equipment, and tools
Any other duties assigned by the winemaking team

Bottling:
Participate in bottling, including setup, sanitation, organization of client case goods, forklift support on the line, and loading trucks with case goods.
Manage bottling prep, including racking, filtering, and SO2 additions

Harvest:
Unloading, weighing, and organizing incoming fruit
Supervise and participate in all harvest production activities, such as pump-overs, punch downs, press operations, racking, barrel downs, and processing line activities
Receive new barrels and assist the team in transferring to cellar positions per cooperage plan for that vintage.
Supervise end of day clean up to ensure it is done efficiently and to standard


Requirements and Qualifications:
Five years of experience working in a winery cellar with a minimum of 2 years of supervisor experience
Ability to direct and manage a 3-9 member cellar crew with constructive relationships and accountability.
Ability to lift up to 50+ lbs. Required
Working knowledge of Innovint, G Suite, and Microsoft Office
Ability to work in cold, humid environments for lengthy periods of time
Ability to work around high noise levels following hearing protection protocols
Ability to work safely around machinery, electrical, hot water, steam, and wine sanitation chemicals, sulfur dioxide (with safety gear used)
Ability to walk up and down stairs and climb ladders up to 20 feet required
Available to work during the harvest schedule, which will exceed 40 hours per week, including Saturday, Sunday, or both, depending on harvest pace.

Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Pay range of $75,000 - $85,000, depending on experience

These figures represent what we reasonably expect to pay for this position, but the actual compensation offered will depend upon numerous job-related factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate's qualifications, skills, experience, education, location, and alignment with market data. The Company reserves the right to modify the range at any time.
