Job Description:

This position is a full-time on-campus role: First review date is 02/23/2025.

Under the general direction of the Director of Viticulture and Enology, this position is a mix of teaching and serving as the associate winemaker for the Southwest Wine Center. This position will teach Enology classes in the Associate of Applied Science degree. This multi-talented winemaker will coordinate and review all cellar operations (sanitation, safety, receiving fruit, fermentation, aging, blending, barrel maintenance, bottling, etc.) with acute attention to detail for high-quality wines. This position is responsible for maintaining wine quality, bulk inventory, day-to-day operations of the cellar and barrel rooms, and workorder records for all wine movements and treatments. Acts as the company safety officer and is able to cover laboratory duties.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Teach annual winery-based Enology classes in the Associate of Applied Science degree sequence & associated certificate programs.
Develop and maintain the course syllabus and deliver practical education based on the vineyard & Southwest Wine Center’s seasonal needs.
Coordinating all cellar activities withthe Director of Viticulture & Enology
Manages production team and ensures protocols are executed perfectly.
Maintains superior wine quality at all times.
Management and participation in cellar workflow from harvest to bottling.
Preparing wines for bottling with QA/QC guidelines and maintaining bottling records.
Management of bulk wine inventory.
Directs barrel maintenance program.
Assists in developing cellar SOPs and training cellar students and part-time student workers.
Manages cellar maintenance and improvements.
Collaborates daily with the Vineyard Manager and Tasting Room Manager
Work with custom crush clients on their wine projects
Prepare and conduct blending trials for clients and owners
Prepare winery monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports and inventory
Gives tours of the winery to the public
Provides technical assistance to AZ wineries and training of industry personnel by developing technical workshops and seminars.
Conducts enology research and outreach to address the needs of the Arizona wine industry
Must be able to travel and occasionally work weekends and extended hours during peak production periods or large-scale events.
Represent the brand at trade, technical, and consumer group meetings.

Minimum Expectations & Requirements:

AAS in Viticulture & Enology or related field, or
3+ years of experience in a managerial winery setting
Arizona Title 4 certificate
Commitment to teaching excellence for distance learners
In-depth knowledge of small-scale winemaking operations.
Experience in wine production, processing, analysis or evaluation
Ability to operate and demonstrate winery equipment
Knowledge of preparing students for careers in the wine industry
Strong interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to multitask in a fluid environment.
Ability to lead and manage a team.
Versatility and flexibility in rapidly changing environments. Technically fluent in Microsoft

Preferred Skills & Abilities:

BS or equivalent degree in Enology or related field.

Essential Functions:

Frequently sits, stands, and walks. Occasionally twists/turns, bends, kneels, reaches overhead, and climbs.
Able to work at various heights, on ladders
Operate forklift (obtain forklift certification within first 60 days)
Must perform physically strenuous tasks including lifting heavy objects (50+ lbs).
