POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the winemaking team, the Cellar/Lab Manager is primarily responsible for overseeing the cellar team and managing daily wine production activities from crush through bottling. A smaller portion of the role involves laboratory management, including coordinating lab work, maintaining records, and supporting vineyard sampling. Time will be split between the cellar, laboratory, and vineyards as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Production Management
• Collaborate with the Winemaker, Assistant Winemaker, and Cellar Master as an integral part of the winemaking team to ensure efficient workflow
• Manage and participate in cellar operations including forklift operation, racking, topping, blending, sanitation, and equipment use
• Maintain protocols, SOPs, and accurate work orders
• Oversee timecards and assist with scheduling alongside the Assistant Winemaker
• Manage vendor relationships and oversee equipment maintenance, including harvest and facility equipment
• Utilize winemaking software (Innovint) for work orders, inventory, processing, and bills of lading
• Act as PM Harvest Manager for late crew during harvest
Laboratory
• Perform and coordinate wine analysis in-house and with outside labs (sensory, chemical, phenolic, microbiological)
• Maintain lab cleanliness, inventory, and equipment
• Order supplies and manage data within the winemaking database
• Support blending trials and research into new technologies
Harvest Responsibilities
• Organize weekly vineyard sampling, crop estimates, and grape analysis
• Maintain vineyard maps and binders
• Track data trends and report findings to the winemaking team
• Special projects and additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed
Education / Experience / Skills
• B.S. in Enology, Fermentation Science, Chemistry, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 3-5 years management experience
• 2–4 years of winery production experience
• Proficiency in Spanish preferred; ability to communicate effectively with Spanish-speaking cellar staff is highly valued
• Strong understanding of cellar, lab, bottling, and harvest operations
• Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing workflows
• Working knowledge of safety regulations and computer proficiency (MS Office, Innovint)
• Ability to lift 45 lbs regularly; valid California driver’s license
