Full-Time, Permanent
Hourly, Non-Exempt
Normal Hours 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM Monday-Friday, with extended hours during harvest
Primary Location: Castello di Amorosa (Calistoga, CA) – 90%
Employer & Secondary Location: V. Sattui Winery (St. Helena, CA) – 10%

Position Description:
The QC Enologist works closely with and reports to the Winemaker, providing support for winemaking operations at both Castello di Amorosa and V. Sattui Winery. This newly created role encompasses a broad range of responsibilities, emphasizing wine sampling, data entry, and bottling quality control. The position is expected to evolve over time, offering expanded responsibilities and career growth opportunities for the right candidate.

Essential Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To:
•  Collaborate daily with Winemakers, Lab Staff, Cellarmaster, and Bottling Line Supervisor to prioritize work flow and optimize wine quality.
•  Collect wine samples from tanks and barrels using sanitary techniques for analysis and tasting. Set up tasting trials for the winemaking team.
•  Travel between the two winery locations as needed, transporting samples, small goods, and documentation using a personal vehicle (mileage reimbursed).
•  Enter work orders and scan barrels into InnoVint winemaking software.
•  Conduct daily bottling and supplies QC checks.
•  During harvest, check Brix of fermenters and assist with grape weighing.
•  Assist the Laboratory Technician as needed with running analysis, including performing analyses with instruments such as the VeriFlow PCR analyzer, SPICA autoanalyzer, Autotitrator, and Alcolyzer.
•  Assist with evaluation of wines to be used for topping. Monitor tasting barrels.
•  Clean sample bottles, sampling tools, centrifuge, and work surfaces. Maintain a clean and orderly laboratory/office environment.
•  Conduct physical inventories or barrels and kegs.
•  Enter new barrels into database, apply labels, and inspect barrels for defects.
•  Participate in approximately four evening Wine Club events annually.

Preferred Qualifications:
•  Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
•  Experience in a winery laboratory work or quality control.
•  Strong organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
•  Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English). Spanish is a plus.
•  Computer proficiency.
•  Interest in or ability to develop strong sensory evaluation skills.
•  Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work extended hours, up to six days per week during harvest, in a physically demanding environment.
•  U.S. citizenship or valid U.S. work authorization. (Relocation and visa sponsorship are not available at this time.)
•  Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle required.
