ABOUT THE JOB
The Director of Portfolio plays a critical leadership role within WDW’s wine distribution business, owning the strategic development, performance, and growth of the supplier portfolio across all wholesale markets. This position requires deep experience within wine distribution, a strong understanding of producer–distributor dynamics, and a proven ability to translate brand strategy into measurable sales execution.
This is a hands-on role that partners closely with senior leadership, sales teams, and winery principals to ensure portfolio alignment, sustainable growth, and market success.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/THE DAY-TO-DAY
Drive hands-on execution of corporate, supplier, and market-level objectives within a three-tier distribution environment
Lead brand-building strategy for key winery partners in collaboration with agency suppliers, sales leadership, and market teams
Identify, evaluate, and recruit new winery partners that complement WDW’s portfolio strategy, financial goals, and brand ethos
Serve as the primary distributor-side liaison for winery suppliers, ensuring professional, transparent, and strategic communication
Develop and deploy impactful programming tools, sales materials, and activation strategies for supplier and company initiatives
Partner with suppliers to manage inventory health, depletion planning, and proper par levels across all markets
Coordinate directly with Senior Vice Presidents, Directors, and market leadership to achieve distribution, depletion, and revenue goals
Support and participate in winery visits, trade tastings, distributor meetings, and WDW-hosted events
Establish and cultivate new winery relationships and successfully onboard them into WDW’s distribution network
Own ongoing supplier relationship management, including goal setting, pricing strategy, inventory management, and market execution
Plan and execute portfolio initiatives that drive growth, visibility, and alignment with company and winery objectives
Monitor and influence sales team performance relative to supplier goals and portfolio priorities
Actively sell, present, and work the market independently across all three wholesale markets
Communicate sales challenges, competitive insights, and growth opportunities to sales leadership and suppliers
Provide in-depth brand education and training to sales teams, ensuring confident, informed selling
Execute WDW business and budget plans to achieve financial and volume targets by market
Guide, motivate, and support sales leadership and teams to meet both distributor and winery expectations
Demonstrate a strong understanding of key on- and off-premise customer types and their business models
Actively contribute to a collaborative, high-performance company culture

Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum of 8+ years of experience within the fine wine industry, with direct experience in wine distribution strongly preferred
Demonstrated experience managing premium and luxury winery portfolios within a distributor environment
Proven understanding of supplier expectations, depletion planning, pricing strategy, and route-to-market execution
Skills:
Positive, results-driven leadership experience
Strong working knowledge of the three-tier system and wholesale sales operations
Proficient in Microsoft Office and distributor reporting tools
Personable, credible, and energetic with a professional presence and advanced wine knowledge
Highly collaborative, detail-oriented, and comfortable leading cross-functional initiatives
Deep understanding of diverse on- and off-premise accounts and their buying behaviors
Ability to develop and utilize marketing, programming, and sales enablement tools
Romance language proficiency (French, Italian, Spanish) preferred
Experience with graphic design or sales presentation tools is a plus
