ACCOUNTING MANAGER

Luxury Family-Owned Winery & Vineyards | Alexander Valley

We are seeking an accomplished Accounting Manager to join our luxury, family-owned winery and vineyards in Alexander Valley. This is a senior, hands-on role for a wine-industry accounting professional who values precision, confidentiality, and stewardship—and who takes pride in supporting a heritage brand defined by quality, integrity, and long-term vision. Reporting directly to the proprietors, the Accounting Manager is entrusted with the financial accuracy, compliance, and operational infrastructure of the winery, vineyards, and related entities. This position is ideal for someone who finds satisfaction in the details, takes ownership of their work, and understands that excellence in accounting is essential to excellence in wine.

ROLE OVERVIEW
The Accounting Manager is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the general ledger and overseeing all day-to-day accounting operations. This includes winery and vineyard cost accounting, inventory valuation, payroll, regulatory compliance, insurance, and coordination of year-end tax preparation. In our small, highly professional office environment, this role also oversees office systems, administrative processes, and business support functions critical to smooth operations.

CORE ACCOUNTING RESPONSIBILITIES
•  Maintain and reconcile the general ledger with complete accuracy
•  Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and financial close
•  Winery and vineyard cost accounting, including farming costs, production costs, inventory valuation, and cost analysis
•  Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management
•  Prepare and post journal entries and supporting schedules
•  Process daily sales entries from POS and eCommerce systems
•  Inventory control and cost accounting of COGS for wine and vineyard operations
•  Manage bi-weekly payroll, employee tax filings, and 401(k) administration
•  Maintain fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules
•  Provide financial analysis to support pricing, cost control, and strategic decisions
•  Coordinate banking, insurance, and financial documentation
•  Develop, document, and maintain accounting policies and procedures

COMPLIANCE & REGULATORY RESPONSIBILITIES
•  Manage federal and state excise taxes, CA sales tax returns, and direct-to-consumer licensing
•  Maintain all TTB and ABC licenses and permits
•  Oversee winery compliance documentation for national and international sales
•  Act as liaison with external compliance firm
•  Ensure timely and accurate filing with:
o TTB
o Board of Equalization
o Sonoma County property statements

LEADERSHIP & OPERATIONAL PARTNERSHIP
•  Serve as a proactive partner to ownership and senior management, delivering timely follow-up and clear financial guidance
•  Support cost control initiatives and negotiate thoughtfully with vendors and suppliers
•  Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality, professionalism, and brand representation
•  Operate comfortably both independently and within a collaborative, high-performing team

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
•  Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Business Administration, or equivalent professional experience
•  Demonstrated wine industry experience with a deep understanding of winery operations
•  Proven expertise in general ledger management, payroll, financial reporting, and compliance
•  Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Adobe Acrobat
•  Strong working knowledge of GAAP and accounting best practices
•  Poised, self-directed professional with excellent judgment and executive presence
