WINEMAKER – STONE HILL WINERY, HERMANN, MISSOURI

Stone Hill Winery, located in the heart of Missouri wine country, is a unique historical property dating back to 1847 with a vast series of underground cellars combined with modern winemaking equipment. The ownership family has a 60-year history of dedication to producing the finest possible wines in a wide range of styles from our 190 acres of estate vineyards.
We are looking for a highly skilled Winemaker to work closely with the Head Winemaker and Lab Technician to meet the quality and production goals of the winery. The successful candidate will be involved in the entire winemaking process from grape reception to bottled inventory management. In addition, the Winemaker will be involved in the operation of our new distillery. This position requires a thorough knowledge of the complete winemaking process, wine chemistry, stability trials, quality control standards, and general winemaking equipment from crush pad to bottling line. The successful candidate must be initiative-taking and capable of adapting to changing priorities and workload, with a commitment to continuous growth and improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
•  Ensure a positive environment where members of the team feel valued and respected.
•  Ensure cellar staff are trained in SOP’s and develop additional SOP’s if needed.
•  Actively participate in safety culture, support safety polices and ensure proper training of cellar staff in safety guidelines.
•  Supervise and conduct day to day winemaking operations.
•  Contribute to the continuous improvement of winemaking processes, procedures, and sanitation protocols.
•  Participate in wine tasting at all stages throughout the winemaking process and make recommendations for process treatments and blends.
•  Participate in evaluating and recommending lab analysis, stability test, and blending.
•  Work with the Head Winemaker to generate work orders for cellar staff and continuously evaluate proper implementation of cellar operations.
•  Maintain the appropriate inventory of winemaking supplies and additives for each stage of the winemaking process.
•  Ensure adherence to strict bottling line quality control parameters.
•  Jointly manage maintenance of wine making equipment through coordination with the winery maintenance staff to ensure timely operational success.
•  Assist with maintaining precise cellar records and compliance with all tracing and TTB reporting requirements.
•  Work with the Head Winemaker and Marketing department to develop innovative new products to meet changing market conditions and achieve increased sales opportunities.
•  Provide support in representing the company internally and externally for key PR events, wholesaler, and retailer VIP winery visits.
Requirements:
•  Bachelor’s or master’s degree in enology, food science, or chemistry.
•  Five plus years’ experience in all aspects of enology and wine production.
•  Possess a thorough understanding of wine chemistry and microbiology.
•  Experience and competence with wine production software and Microsoft Suite.
•  Must be able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly.
•  Must be able to climb ladders and stairs.
•  Must be willing to work long hours during harvest.
•  Must possess strong verbal and written English language communication skills.
•  Must be a collaborator with a positive, can-do attitude.
•  Must possess a passion for wine.
•  Must be currently legal to work in the United States.
•  This is a full-time, salaried position offering a generous compensation package that includes group health, 401K Plan with company match, paid time off (PTO), and paid sick time (PST). Compensation commensurate with experience.
