Job Description:

The Ackley Brands Viticulture / Vineyard Manager is responsible for the strategic, agronomic, and financial leadership of our estate vineyards in the Willamette Valley. This role oversees all vineyard operations across two CCOF organic and Demeter biodynamic certified sites, managing a full-time, skilled vineyard workforce while ensuring farming excellence, cost discipline, and long-term vineyard health. This is a hands-on leadership role for a viticulturist who understands both how to tend the land and manages costs. The ideal candidate brings deep cultural and site knowledge, leads by presence in the vineyard, and partners closely with winemaking and finance to deliver fruit quality aligned with style goals and financial targets.

Vineyard Leadership & Agronomy:
•  Lead all viticultural practices across 200+ acres of certified CCOF and biodynamic vineyards, including pruning, canopy management, irrigation strategy, biodynamic spray program, nutrition, pest and disease management, and harvest preparation
•  Maintain and continuously improve vineyard health, soil vitality, vine balance, and fruit quality across multiple sites and varietals
•  Diagnose and directly address vineyard issues in real time, including vine stress, disease pressure, yield variability, and labor efficiency
•  Ensure full compliance with organic and biodynamic certification standards, audits, and documentation
•  Drive long-term vineyard planning, including replanting strategies, varietal selection, rootstock decisions, and climate resilience planning

People & Culture:
•  Lead, develop, and retain a full-time vineyard workforce with an emphasis on skill, accountability, and pride in ownership
•  Foster a culture of respect, safety, discipline, and continuous improvement in the vineyard
•  Set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and build bench strength within the vineyard team
•  Ensure all vineyard operations meet or exceed safety, labor, and regulatory standards

Financial & Operational Management:
•  Partner closely with the Finance team to build, manage, and track vineyard budgets with strict cost controls
•  Own vineyard cost management, including labor, materials, inputs, equipment usage, and capital planning
•  Understand cost per acre, cost per ton, and yield economics and actively manage toward financial targets
•  Identify efficiencies without compromising vineyard health, sustainability, or fruit quality
•  Participate in annual planning, forecasting, and post-harvest financial reviews

Cross-Functional Collaboration:
•  Work in close partnership with the Winemaking team to align farming practices with stylistic and quality goals
•  Communicate clearly and proactively with executive leadership regarding vineyard conditions, risks, and opportunities
•  Contribute viticultural insight to broader company strategy, including growth planning and sustainability initiatives

Qualifications & Experience:
•  10+ years of progressive viticulture experience, with demonstrated leadership over estate vineyards
•  Deep experience farming in the Willamette Valley or comparable cool-climate regions
•  Proven expertise in organic and biodynamic vineyard management (CCOF and Demeter experience strongly preferred)
•  Strong understanding of vineyard economics, budgeting, and cost control
•  Track record of leading full-time vineyard teams with professionalism and accountability
•  Comfortable working both strategically and hands-on in the vineyard
•  Strong communicator with the ability to bridge vineyard operations, winemaking, and finance

At Ackley Brands, we desire to partner with a grounded, practical, and decisive Viticultural leader that has deep respect for the land, people, and long-term stewardship. We anticipate someone who is financially disciplined, solutions oriented, and is comfortable with direct conversations. Bilingual (English and Spanish) is preferred but not required.
