THE POSITION:
Account Managers are responsible for selling closures in a designated geographical zone, servicing existing clients as well as achieving ambitious prospecting objectives. Our clients are mainly wineries, with some spirits companies and brewers, and their designers or consultants.
The most successful Portocork Account Managers possess a down-to-earth personality, are empathetic, customer-focused, adaptable, and able to work collaboratively with a diverse base of clients as well as the other members of the sales, production and customer service teams.
Interactions with our clients usually include:
• Scheduled meetings and product presentations to key decision-makers
• Appreciation events with winemaking staff
• Wine evaluations/tastings and technical round tables
• Business lunches & dinners when appropriate
• Frequent telephone/email contact regarding orders, planning, product announcements, etc
LOCATION:
This position is home-based, but within the main sales territory of Paso Robles / Santa Barbara wine country. Frequent local and regional travel is required. Periodic travel to our Napa offices and industry events is required.
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintain and grow market share, leveraging the existing client base
• Identify and pursue new specifically targeted clients
• Successfully track sales, orders and needs with clients
• Actively enter and update all clients data and sales activities into the company CRM
• Effectively communicate product recommendations
• Act as a liaison between clients and company for orders, artwork, and special requests
• Collaborate with customer service and production staff to ensure the best possible service to our clients
• Work with management and peers to promote company goals and objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:
• Minimum three years of experience working in a sales capacity, preferably directly to winemakers and wineries
• Experience within the wine industry sufficient to gain understanding of the calendar and culture of winemaking
• Understanding of the wine supply chain: product development, purchasing, quality, production, sales
• Strategic planning abilities
• Experience with PR networking environments and social media promotion
• Project Management experience (lead time, team coordination) helpful but not required
• Demand Management experience (forecasting and planning) helpful but not required
• Demonstrated organizational and client relations skills such as contract development and pricing in accordance with company policy and organizational objectives
• B.S. or B.A. Degree (particularly enology or other technical specialty) preferred
• A passion for wine and knowledge of your regions’ wine industry
• Ability to articulate the wine/cork sensory experience during wine tastings
• Strong verbal and written communication skills including proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook and CRMs
• Valid driver's license with a clean DMV record.
OTHER/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to work Monday through Friday, Saturday and/or evening events as needed; sit and/or stand at a workstation; speak and listen via telephone; able to lift and carry boxes of up to 30 lbs; travel by car and plane; visit multiple locations (inside wineries, out in vineyards) climb stairs; sit/stand and operate a computer.
