Position Summary
The Assistant Winemaker plays a key role in supporting all aspects of wine production at Lynmar Estate, from harvest planning through bottling. Working closely with the GM/Winemaker, this position is responsible for executing cellar operations, supervising cellar staff, maintaining quality standards, and contributing to the ongoing refinement of Lynmar’s winemaking practices. This role is ideal for a motivated winemaker looking to grow within a premium, estate-focused program.
Key Responsibilities
Winemaking & Cellar Operations
• Assist with all phases of winemaking, including harvest logistics, fermentations, pressing, barrel work, blending trials, and bottling
• Monitor fermentations and wine evolution; perform additions, rackings, and transfers
• Conduct regular wine evaluations and maintain detailed production records
• Uphold Lynmar’s quality standards across all lots and vintages
Harvest & Team Leadership
• Support harvest planning and execution, including fruit intake and scheduling
• Supervise, train, and lead cellar staff and harvest interns
• Foster a culture of safety, cleanliness, and accountability in the cellar
Equipment & Facility
• Operate and maintain winery equipment including tanks, presses, pumps, forklifts and facility infrastructure.
• Assist with sanitation programs, preventative maintenance, and cellar organization
Compliance & Safety
• Support compliance with TTB, CDFA, OSHA, and local regulations
• Follow and help enforce winery SOPs and safety protocols
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Enology, Viticulture, or a related field preferred
• 2–5 years of hands-on winery experience, including multiple harvests
• Strong technical understanding of fermentation management and cellar operations
• Experience working with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay preferred
• Ability to lift 50 lbs, work extended hours during harvest, and perform physical cellar work
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and clear communication
Preferred Skills
• Experience in premium or estate-focused winemaking programs
• Familiarity with winery compliance, inventory, and production software
• Forklift certification or willingness to obtain
Salary & Benefits
• Salary Range: $70,000 – $80,000 annually, depending on experience
