POSITION SUMMARY:
Under minimal supervision, carries out all assigned work functions performed on the Canning Line. Must be proficient in all operator duties at every machine in the canning building and can independently operate all advanced machines. Also must be proficient in CIP and sanitation duties in the area. Ability to troubleshoot canning processes and promptly report problems. May provide work leadership and/or training support to other employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
General production work includes, but is not limited to the following:
• Depalletizer station: Bring new can pallets into depalletizer and operate the depalletizer. Organize top frames, tier sheets, and wood pallets into designated areas.
• Sanitation: Can handle full CIP of the line and ensure proper sanitation is met
• Operate case packing machines: Monitor and replenish consumables. Perform change overs from loose packs to sealed pack.
• Packing: Keep up with conveyor speed to pack cans into cases and applying paktechs by hand. Monitor cans coming through for damage and set aside.
• Palletizing station: Keep up with cases coming through and stack cases onto a pallet. Responsible for correct stacking orientation and neat stacks.
• Pallet Wrapping Station: Assist palletizer stations to keep up with production. Responsible for keeping track of pallets produced and recording them on the tally sheet. Ensure that pallet tags are correct and match the production order.
• Canning Line Cleanup: Responsible for facilitating rework / reconditioning, general clean up and housekeeping of any assigned area(s).
• Provides assistance with canning line changeovers, preventive maintenance, and filler, filter and line sanitation procedures.
• Communication: Participates at and contributes to team meetings. Assists in the development of improved procedures and techniques. Helps train, evaluate and retrain new team members.
• Follows standard operating procedures in the performance of all canning activities to ensure maximum productivity and cider quality objectives are achieved.
• Adheres to all safety policies and procedures, including but not limited to timely and accurate reporting of all work-related injuries and illnesses to the supervisor, promoting safety awareness to co-workers, advising the supervisor of any unsafe acts and conditions and wearing required personal protective equipment.
• Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
• Filler: Can operate the filler and handle all start up and closing responsibilities. Ensures proper carbonation of product is met and will record CO2 readings throughout the day. Ensures that the all product is ready for bottling and will make necessary connections to get the line started.
• Perform daily operations of the Filtec low fill detector.
• Transfer cider from the tanker to packaging tanks.
• Perform CIP on both the tanker and packaging tanks.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as canning line procedures, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively communicate, read and write in English
• Ability to assist in the diagnosis and adjustment of bottling equipment and processes.
• Accuracy and attention to detail are essential.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
• Minimum of two years’ experience in all phases of bottling operations or equivalent experience
• Must share company values: integrity, respect, value creation, compliance, customer focus
• Current forklift certification and ability to operate a forklift and pallet jack
• Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work in an evolving environment with enthusiasm
• Bilingual preferred
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
• The canning line presents a challenging environment and may present exposure to hazardous conditions.
• Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position
• Eye protection equipment are required in all canning areas.
• Alertness and the ability to quickly respond to equipment malfunctions is required.
• Must be able walk up and down stairs, climb ladders, bend, crouch, squat, stand and walk for extended periods as required by job duties
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs. on a continuous basis.
