Summer Somewhere is a small, family run, local Malibu Wine Company with a love of bringing people together, celebrating life’s moments and remembering it’s always Summer Somewhere. Our production & vineyard sites are located in Santa Barbara County and our tasting room is located in beautiful, Malibu, a place we are lucky to call home.
Summer Somewhere Wines is seeking a dedicated and passionate Tasting Room Manager to help spearhead sales program in Malibu. We are looking for a dynamic, professional, and outgoing brand ambassador to help lead and manage our small team. The Manager must have exceptional sales skills, managerial experience, best-in-class customer service and a positive attitude.
The Tasting Room Manager reports directly to the project Owner and Winemaker. This individual will represent the core values of Summer Somewhere and embody brand integrity. Part-time Tasting Room staff will be hired, managed, and report directly to the Tasting Room Manager.
Tasting Room Manager Responsibilities:
- Manage daily customer facing activities at the Tasting Room, including greeting visitors, providing tastings, wine education, and events
- Drive wine sales and club acquisition in all sales categories
- Maintain excellent customer service while up-selling wines and memberships
- Assemble and train a high-performing Tasting Room team
- Collaborate with sales, distributors, and winery staff
- Assist with wine club shipment processing and pick-up orders
- Act as Brand Ambassador at the Tasting Room and other events
- Identify successful strategies and implement tactical plans
- Participate in weekly strategy calls with winery and marketing teams
- Develop Tasting Room and Wine Club Notes
- Manage Point of Sales operation and Commerce7 backend
- Assist in marketing and social media efforts
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the Tasting Room
- Set up and breakdown Tasting Room daily (opening & closing responsibilities)
- Order and maintain supplies and coordinate repairs for the Tasting Room
Essential Functions:
Sales
- Meet and exceed sales goals for wine and merchandise
- Increase sales per visitor and average sales
- Up-sell guests into elevated tasting experiences
- Recruit, motivate, and train a high-performing sales team
- Increase Wine Club acquisition and manage attrition
- Develop effective sales promotions and discount policies
- Drive visitor-ship and traffic to the Tasting Room
- Generate weekly sales reports and share insights
Management
- Mentor and review staff, address complaints, and resolve conflicts
- Schedule and conduct staff meetings and events
- Develop and implement effective sales incentives
- Manage labor budget and review timecards
- Execute best-in-class tasting experiences and events
- Elevate staff's wine knowledge
- Ensure appropriate staffing and schedules
- Perform retail operations tasks
- Conduct inventory and restock products
Other Qualifications:
- Must be 21+ years of age
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required
- College degree in retail/business management or hospitality preferred
- Must hold a valid driver's license and obtain alcohol server permits
- Min 3+ years in hospitality and 2+ years of prior managerial experience required
- Must be available to work weekends, special events, and holidays
- Proficient with Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to multi-task, follow-up, and work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to lift weights up to 50 pounds with frequency and perform physical tasks
- Implement and maintain safety measures
Schedule will primarily be Wednesday-Sunday with flexible hours.
