Job Title: Director of Distilling Operations (DDO)
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Job Summary:
The Director of Distilling Operations (DDO) will be responsible for managing the overall operations of the distillery. This includes overseeing production, supply chain, logistics, quality control, regulatory compliance, and safety protocols. The DDO will work closely with the CEO and other executives to develop and implement strategies that drive growth, enhance efficiency, and ensure the consistent production of high-quality spirits.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operations Management:
• Oversee the daily operations of the distillery, including production, warehousing, and distribution, including all production, warehousing and operations staff.
• Ensure that production processes are efficient, cost-effective, and meet the quality standards of the brand.
• Develop and implement operational policies and procedures that improve productivity and maintain safety standards.
• Develop, monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement.
• Responsible for the safe working order, maintenance and repair of all distilling and ancillary equipment as well as the distillery facilities and warehouses.
• Work with custom distilling clients as needed to develop, onboard and produce products.
2. Strategic Planning:
• Collaborate with the CEO and the senior leadership team to develop and implement the company’s strategic goals.
• Lead initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and increase profitability.
• Identify opportunities for innovation in production processes and product offerings.
• Participate in the long-term planning of the distillery’s expansion and capacity-building efforts.
3. Financial Management:
• Manage the distillery’s operating budget, ensuring cost control and resource allocation align with business goals.
• Work closely with the finance team to monitor financial performance and prepare reports for the executive team and board of directors.
• Identify opportunities to optimize costs without compromising quality or safety.
4. Team Leadership:
• Lead and mentor the operations team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Oversee hiring, training, and performance management for operations staff.
• Promote a positive and safe working environment in line with company values and regulatory requirements.
5. Quality Control and Compliance:
• Ensure that all production processes comply with industry regulations, health and safety standards, and environmental laws.
• Oversee quality control measures to ensure the consistent production of high-quality spirits.
• Work with the compliance team to maintain all necessary licenses, certifications, and permits.
6. Supply Chain and Inventory Management:
• Oversee procurement, inventory management, and logistics to ensure the timely delivery of raw materials and finished products.
• Build and maintain relationships with suppliers and distributors to ensure a reliable supply chain.
• Optimize inventory levels to balance production needs with cost efficiency.
7. Regulatory and Environmental Compliance:
• Ensure the distillery complies with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations, including production reporting requirements, alcohol production laws, environmental regulations, and safety standards.
• Stay updated on changes in regulations and implement necessary changes in operations.
Qualifications:
• Experience: 15+ years of experience in distilling operations management.
• Leadership: Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage cross-functional teams and drive organizational change.
• Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of production processes, supply chain management, quality control, and regulatory compliance in the distilling industry.
