Role Summary:

The Controller position is responsible for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
Roles and Responsibilities:
•  Functions as a key member of the Finance and Accounting department. Work directly with the CFO and FP&A in a coordinated effort to drive continuous improvement in the department and throughout the organization.
•  Maintains and enforces a documented system of accounting policies and procedures for all entities. Safeguards the company's assets by ensuring proper expense and use controls and performing auditing functions as needed.
•  Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's short- and long-term goals and objectives.
•  Manage all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, chart of accounts, intercompany accounting and eliminations, inventory accounting and revenue recognition.
•  Prepare and publish timely financial statements to ownership and the executive management team.
•  Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting. Work with FP&A to report actual results compared to budget monthly and quarterly.
•  Collaborates with technical accounting to provide technical accounting guidance to team and ensure accounting processes are in compliance with GAAP.
•  Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls throughout the organization.
•  Develop and support month-end and year-end close process including month end reconciliations.
•  Manage and oversee all account reconciliations, applying discipline and consistent methodologies each month.
•  Assists the Chief Financial Officer and FP&A with external lender reporting requirements
•  Manage and develop the accounting department team members. Work to ensure that the accounting department is staffed with qualified financial personnel capable of meeting the objectives and responsibilities. Responsible for continued growth and development of the staff.
•  Researches and evaluates new ways and tools to improve and streamline accounting processes and embraces change as a strategic advantage.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
•  Ability to meet deadlines, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability handle multiple projects simultaneously.
•  Strong communication skills, ability to lead and supervise at all levels of the organization.
•  Thorough knowledge of US GAAP accounting and principles.
•  Excellent administration skills.
•  Customer service, continuous improvement, flexible and open minded individual.

Education & Experience
•  Proven work experience as a Financial Controller in the Wine Industry.
•  10 plus years of overall experience in managing an accounting team. CPA or CMA preferred, but not required.
