Position Overview
We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Health & Safety Coordinator to support and advance our company’s health and safety efforts across multiple facilities. This role is responsible for auditing existing safety programs, implementing new initiatives, and promoting a culture of safety through training, enforcement, and collaboration. Under general direction, the Health & Safety Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring environmental health and workplace safety compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Essential Responsibilities
Conduct safety audits to identify areas for improvement and ensure ongoing compliance with safety standards. Follow up on items identified during internal and external audits.
Support the development and implementation of safety programs in accordance with local, state, and federal occupational health and safety regulations.
Recommend safety standards for the handling, storage, and transportation of hazardous materials. Responsible for SDS compliance and organization.
Work with internal stakeholders and outside resources to help create and maintain written safety programs that protect employees and the environment from chemical, industrial, and hazardous waste exposure.
In partnership with department managers, lead the administration, development, and maintenance of written safety programs such as Lockout/Tagout, Respiratory Protection, Heat Illness Prevention, Emergency Action Plan, and others as required.
Determine the safe use, storage, and disposal of potential pollutants and hazardous materials.
Investigate accidents, analyze causes, and recommend changes in procedures, practices, methods, environmental conditions, or equipment to prevent reoccurrence.
Assist with hazard evaluations, selection of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and development of hazard communication plans.
Facilitate and support training initiatives to ensure employee awareness and understanding of safe work practices and the proper use of safety equipment.
Develop reports and ensure compliance with governmental regulations as required. Focus on written plans, including annual updates and creation of new plans as identified.
Coordinate and support environmental compliance efforts, including required reporting, recordkeeping, and communication with regulatory agencies.
May support workers’ compensation compliance and coordinate with insurance carriers and regulatory agencies as needed.
Performs other duties as directed.
The successful candidate’s background includes:
2+ years of experience in environmental health and safety, preferably in a manufacturing or food/beverage production environment
Experience conducting safety audits, incident investigations, and compliance reporting
Working knowledge of OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulations
Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to engage employees across all levels
Must be self-driven, organized and be able to work in a fast-paced team environment.
Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with EHS or compliance software is a plus
Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
This role requires time spent in both office settings and on the production floor. PPE is required when performing audits or site inspections.
Must be able to sit, stand, walk, stretch, reach, grasp, crouch, turn, and kneel.
Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to demonstrate a clean driving record.
