Ackley Brands is looking for an elite winemaker with deep expertise in Washington and Oregon Bordeaux, Rhône, and Burgundy varietals, combined with a mastery of biodynamic (Demeter) and organic (CCOF) winemaking principles. While boutique in our philosophy, we balance artisanal craftsmanship with a firm understanding of large-scale operations. Expectations:
• Oversee all aspects of winemaking from grape to bottle, ensuring the highest standards of quality and consistency.
• Develop and execute winemaking strategies for Bordeaux, Rhône, and Burgundy varietals, as well as other boutique selections.
• Adapts winemaking techniques to highlight vintage variations.
• Manages limited production, high-touch fermentations with extreme attention to detail maintaining rigorous tasting and sensory evaluation.
• Implement and refine biodynamic (Demeter), organic (CCOF), and conventional winemaking protocols while balancing scalability and efficiency.
• Manage vineyard relationships, working closely with growers and viticulturists to optimize fruit sourcing and vineyard practices.
• Mentor cellar and production teams, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration.
• Drive innovation in winemaking techniques while respecting the traditions and nuances of ultra-premium wine production.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
• Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to align winemaking styles with brand identity and market demand.
• Occasional travel is required to support industry events, market work, wine club events, and brand representation.
• Maintain and enhance winery sanitation, safety, and sustainability programs.
• Work closely with Director of Winemaking on various organizational winemaking projects.
Qualifications:
• Proven track record in producing world-class Washington and Oregon wines.
• Extensive experience with biodynamic (Demeter) and organic (CCOF) winemaking practices.
• Strong background in both ultra-premium small-lot winemaking and understanding of premium bulk production.
• Elite palate for assessing balance, typicity, and ageability.
• Hands-on leadership style with the ability to inspire and develop.
• Deep knowledge of vineyard management, viticulture, and sourcing.
• Proficiency in winetracking software and data management tools.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt and innovate.
• Experience working in Washington and Oregon wine regions is required.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Enology, Viticulture, or a related field preferred.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs and work extended hours during the harvest season.
• Must be willing and able to be onsite full-time in Eastern Washington.
