Job Description:

Double Canyon Vineyards is seeking a seasonal lab intern for the 2025 Vintage. The position will focus on, but not be limited to, the chemistry and analysis needed for winemaking. From fruit sampling to monitoring fermentations, the winery lab is a focal point and a crucial resource for harvest operations. Enology or previous lab experience is preferred, but not required, as we will give practical training on Standard Operating Procedures for analysis, record keeping, and all areas of the winery.

An ideal candidate will demonstrate an attention to detail, be able to focus on tasks independently, and have clear and direct communication skills.

While this position is lab focused, we are a small team and there will be opportunities to participate in all areas of cellar operations, including fruit receival and processing, cap management, cleaning tanks and equipment, operating the press, and barrel work. Team players who are enthusiastic about winemaking and want to jump in are always welcome. Position will start Early August and run to the natural conclusion of harvest, which is usually around mid-December.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Basic Daily Fermentation Chemistry, Brix and temperature
-Fruit Intake chemistry. Brix, TA, PH
-Some more advanced wine chemistry. Glu Fru, ML, Acetic Acid
-Perform sanitation of all areas of cellar operations; sterilizes casks, wine tanks, wine hoses, barrels, presses, grape processing equipment and any other equipment necessary to -maintain the integrity of the must and wine.
Assist with basic methods of grape processing from grape receiving, grape crushing and must tank set up.
-During harvest, will perform must circulations, pumpovers and rack and returns and must removal from tanks.
-Assist with setting up a clean racking of wine from one tank to another, and wine equipment set up for moving wine from tank to the barrels.
-Assist in staging wine barrels on the racks and preparing the barrel identification cards.
-Assist in barrel racking and tank set up.
-Assist with cleaning and maintaining wine barrels.
-Read and perform cellar tasks as directed in the cellar work order and provide feedback via the work order.
-Assist with bottling line processes; glass dumping, case packing, and pallet stacking the wine cases.
-Help to maintain general cleanliness and good sanitation in wine processing area.
-Operate all winery process machinery in an efficient and safe manner.
-Operate forklift to move equipment as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:
-Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
-Years of Experience: No previous cellar experience required.
-Must be able to accurately carry out written and verbal instructions.
-Must be able to read and understand English.
-Must be responsible and work well with others
-Must be able to perform the functions of the position as described in a normal winery environment and work with sulfur dioxide, ammonia-based sanitizers, and mild organic acids -will be present in the workplace.
-Must be able to walk, stoop and bend repeatedly
-Must be able to perform regular strenuous physical work
-Must be able to work on ladders and catwalks at heights up to 35 feet.
-Ability to operate all required equipment: pallet jack, hand jack, drive forklift, filters, pumps and barrel washers.
-Must be able to repetitively lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Objects could be a case of wine or a wine barrel.
-Must be able to work a flexible schedule including long hours, overtime and various shifts during harvest.

The projected hourly pay range for this position is $17.00 to $20.00 per hour. The range/rate is the projected compensation for this position however the actual compensation offered may vary based on job-related factors such as (but not limited to) candidate qualifications, related experience and education, candidate work location and market data. Crimson Wine Group reserves the right to modify the pay range/rate at any time in the future.
