Job Description:

The Duckhorn Portfolio is North America’s premier luxury wine company. We were established 1976 by Dan and Margaret Duckhorn. Our portfolio features some of North America’s most revered wineries, including Decoy, Paraduxx, Goldeneye, Migration, Canvasback, Calera, Kosta Browne, Sonoma Cutrer, Greenwing, and Postmark.

The Director of People provides leadership and support to the people and culture components of the organization, ensuring all People programs and practices are integrated and effective in supporting the overall mission, vision, values, and goals of the organization. Responsibilities include recruitment and retention, training and development, performance management, and employee relations while supporting business unit leaders and People Business Partners in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws.

What we will ask you to do:
I. Strategic Planning
•  Collaborate with Chief People Officer to achieve the Company’s long-term strategy and goals; identify ways to support through optimized people management and organizational design.
•  Support key People strategic and tactical initiatives; provide direction and expertise for the full scope of team functions.
•  Provide guidance and leadership to the People team; personally facilitate the resolution of novel, challenging, or sensitive matters in all aspects of the work of the People team.
II. Talent Acquisition and Development
•  Assist in workforce planning activities, including the oversight of all talent acquisition and the development of plans to optimize the Company’s functional teams to support growth.
•  In conjunction with the People team, partner with managers to fill positions, advise on position requisitions, participate in interview process as appropriate, and advise managers on compensation.
•  Assess, develop, implement, and facilitate management and employee training needs and programs.
III. Performance Management
•  Assist in the planning and administration of goal setting, performance management and calibration process, including the annual Professional Development Review (PDR) process.
•  Ensure managers deploy clear expectations and address performance issues in a timely manner; coach managers on strategies to promote optimum performance.
IV. Organizational Development
•  Instill a culture of continuous improvement by partnering with management, employees, and external parties to identify ways to reduce redundancies, increase employee efficiency, enhance job satisfaction and identify business process improvement opportunities.
•  Provide recommendations for the optimization of reporting and organizational structures.
•  Oversee the People Business Partner team in the development and management of staffing strategy plans and programs.
V. Employee Relations
•  Develop, refine, implement, and enforce the Company’s People and related policies and procedures with a focus on enhancement of culture, employee job satisfaction, risk management, and productivity.
•  Conduct and oversee internal investigations, lead grievance, dispute resolution, and interactive accommodation processes, in coordination with the Chief People Officer.
VII. Human Capital Budgeting and Reporting
•  Assist with staffing forecasts and analyses to project staffing and organizational development changes in quarterly, annual, and multi-year periods.

What you will need:
•  Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
•  10 or more years of experience in a variety of Human Resources roles; 7 or more years of Human Resources leadership at a growing company; PHR/SPHR certification.
•  Exceptional listening, verbal, and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to effectively communicate at all levels; extensive experience counseling executives, managers and employees in sensitive situations.
•  Intellectual curiosity, progressive thinking, and knowledge of current human resources trends.
•  Considerable knowledge of California labor laws and regulations, Department of Labor regulations; extensive experience conducting internal reviews and investigations.
•  Customer service mindset; good judgment and high emotional intelligence with the ability to make timely and sound business and people decisions; the ability to multi-task and prioritize completing tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
•  Proven skills in selecting talent, upholding a healthy internal culture, and developing others.
•  Familiarly with public company executive compensation disclosure and analysis preferred.
•  A demonstrated track record of working collaboratively as part of a sophisticated senior team, with the ability to influence, exchange ideas big and small, and push collectively for the best outcome.
•  A high level of self-awareness and humility; a sense of humor.
•  Appreciation of fine wine is a plus!
