We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Wine Buyer to join our dynamic team and play a crucial role in sourcing distinctive wines that delight our diverse club memberships. Job Summary:
The Wine Buyer will be responsible for defining the medium-term wine strategy for the Gold Medal Wine Group, identifying, evaluating, and securing high-quality wines that align with the specific profiles, costs and price points of our five wine clubs. This role involves extensive research, collaboration with internal teams and suppliers, participation in tastings, and meticulous attention to detail in all procurement processes. The ideal candidate will be a proactive learner with a strong passion for wine, excellent communication skills, strong commercial sensibilities and the ability to understand the nuances of different wine club member preferences and select wines to fit their needs.

What You’ll Do:
•  Define medium-term wine strategy for the wine clubs, including working with marketing partners to test the right commercial strategy and evaluate the club structure and sourcing model we have in place today
•  Own the wine vision that is at the heart of these brands. You will be identifying the wineries, trends and ideas that are at the heart of our proposition to members - we want someone with a clear point of view on the industry and who is able to energize a team behind it
•  Collaborate closely with buying teams to manage the end-to-end procurement process for wine selections across the clubs.
•  Lead the cross-team process to build a compelling member experience around the wines that we share with them (winemaker stories, content and engagement)
•  Conduct thorough evaluations to identify potential acquisitions suitable for our various club offerings.
•  Critically assess distributor lists for wines that meet the quality and margin standards of each wine club.
•  Evaluate winery-direct opportunities for use in club offerings.
•  Perform extensive research on pricing, press, scores, and SKU details to inform purchasing decisions for each club.
•  Engage in daily procurement activities and in-depth research within various wine categories, specifically focusing on wines that align with the distinct focuses of our five wine clubs.
•  Diligently maintain records of competitive market costs and margins for each club to ensure profitable sourcing and value for our members.
•  Regularly participate in wine tastings to evaluate new products for quality and alignment with the specific preferences of Gold Medal Wine Club, California Wine Club, and Wine of the Month Club members.
•  Efficiently manage the tasting calendar and coordinate sample submissions in coordination with the larger buying team.
•  Accurately log incoming samples and proactively manage communication and expectations with suppliers.
•  Ensure the timely submission of purchase orders and maintain effective communication with suppliers regarding order fulfillment for all wine club selections.
•  Coordinate with operations to ensure that club shipments contain the approach materials.
•  Collaborate with the copywriting and marketing teams to ensure they have the necessary information for delivering club collateral in a timely manner as laid out in the process calendar.
•  Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to understand member preferences and source specific products that will resonate with each wine club audience.
•  Review daily offers with the team to identify and rectify errors, and contribute to strategic marketing discussions to enhance wine club member acquisition and retention.
•  Demonstrate a proactive approach to learning and development within our supportive and open-minded work environment, actively seeking and providing feedback to foster personal and professional growth.
•  Operates from our American Canyon office, actively contributing to the success of the procurement team and the overall strategy for the Gold Medal Wine Group's wine clubs.
•  Execute all tasks with meticulous attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy.
•  Remain flexible and adaptable to evolving company objectives, readily embracing new tasks and responsibilities as needed to support the growth and success of our wine clubs and other initiatives.

What You Need:
•  At least two years of experience in the wine business (club experience is preferred), with a strong understanding of different wine regions, varietals, and production methods. Experience in online retail (e-commerce outside of wine is a significant plus).
•  WSET II or Sommelier Certification preferred.
•  Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with strong active listening abilities.
•  Proven ability to multitask, prioritize effectively, and operate efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
•  A high level of computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google products (Sheets, Docs, Drive, Gmail).
•  Demonstrated ability to adapt to the changing needs of the company as we grow and innovate.
•  Bachelor's degree preferred.
•  Experience in luxury wine buying or sales is a plus.
•  Physical ability to lift, twist, turn, and walk while carrying up to 50 pounds.
