Job Summary:
The Cellar Technician II is responsible for executing intermediate to advanced cellar operations at Kunde Winery. This role involves fermentation management, barrel work, filtration, sanitation, and product transfers while ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency standards are met. The Cellar Technician II works under minimal supervision and may assist in training entry-level staff.
Responsibilities:
Team member with at least 5 harvests of experience, a complete understanding of all cellar operations and equipment. Can lead or assist others based on the need. Reporting to the Cellar Master.
Safety:
• Lead Safety trainings and orientation
• Performs Safety Inspections
• Role model for all cellar employees
• Assist the Cellar Master with PPE management
• Confined Space entry supervisor
Environment:
• Role model throughout.
• Speaks up when needed to address short comings or to improve the processes.
• Leads participation in meetings and shares ideas.
• Promotes the respect of company policies and company property.
• Coaches, praises and corrects others as warranted.
• Assists the Cellar Master with maintenance projects and daily mechanical systems walk-thru.
Quality:
• Trains new employees in proper procedures
• Has the ability to evaluate wines for basic defects
• Has strong math and problem-solving skills
• Displays strong communication skills. Able to adjust style as needed to reach the audience
• Stands for what is right for the wine based on the activity and makes sure that short cuts are not taken. Speaks up when there is an issue
• Can perform, lead and train others in all wine operation from grape delivery to bottling
• Assists Cellar Master with barrel management
• Has strong knowledge of cooperage, barrel care and the ability to repair basic leaks.
Productivity:
• Always thinks ahead of the current project
• Always considers the other projects that are happening in the cellar and adapts to promote the successful completion of all the projects
• Can find information in wine management software, Innovint, to promote the workflow
• Assists Cellar Master with the proper receival of dry goods including documentation, the receival documentation and bar coding of new Oak, chemical inventory and day-to-day cellar operations planning.
• Develops and promotes efficiency improvement without compromising quality
• Has basic computer skills, Excel, Word
Qualifications:
• Previous winery experience, 4+ years.
• Knowledge of fermentation, filtration, and cellar operations.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Strong math and record-keeping skills.
• Forklift certification is a plus.
• Highschool diploma.

Physical requirements:
• Able to work long periods while walking and standing
• Able to climb stairs and ladders multiple times / day
• Able to lift 50 lbs. repeatedly
Schedule requirements:
• Flexible schedule, ability to work long hours, various shifts and weekends
• During harvest, we operate two shifts which include late and overnights, partial shifts and weekends
